Biomass-derived porous carbon highly efficient for removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II)

Lignin-based porous carbon (LPC) with layered graphene-like structure was synthesized. LPC exhibited excellent adsorption performances for removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II). Factors affecting the Pb(II) and Cd(II) removal by LPC were examined in details. Recyclability, adsorption isotherms and kinetics of LPC were investigated.

Direct conversion of furfural to levulinic acid/ester was achieved in dimethoxymethane/methanol via only acid catalysis. The polymerization between levulinic acid/ester with dimethoxymethane was the key reason for diminishing the production of levulinic acid/ester. Methanol as the co-solvent/reactant alleviated the polymerization.
