After the 2022 Opening Ceremony for new PKUSZers, a fantastic welcoming party was followed and held on September 28 for students. At the same time, the celebration of National Day is also the most anticipated event every Autumn.
Welcoming entrance of the party
The party this year, the very first year, was organized on the football field of PKU Shenzhen campus. Compared to the limited space and seats in the auditorium, an open space can support more audiences, providing a well-ventilated area for reducing person-to-person contact during the shows. Not only is the site satisfying the epidemic precaution needs, but students also found their favourite seats for the performance.

The tickets for the party lucky draw were released on the Nanyan Graduate Student Union’s official WeChat account and in front of the campus supermarket. But those without the ticket could still be an audience if they presented with negative results in nucleic acid tests. The coloured-fluorescent sticks and souvenirs were given to all participants to boom up the atmosphere among them.

Program list
Till the dusk gone, the party began around seven in the evening. All performances were provided bythe Nanyan Art Troupe as well as the students from each of the Schools.Particularly, the School leaders and student representatives sing along thefamous song ‘My Chinese Heart’ for National Day as a special event. Differentcreative shows were independently designed in accordance with the Schools’themes by performers, including the live band show, poetry recital, martial artperforming, modern & street dancing, drama & musical show, etc.
The hosts of party
One another highlight of this year’s party surprising us is a foreign student host, Daria, who is talented and also participated in both Art Troupe and PHBS performances. She speaks fluent Chinese and was responsible for the show announcement interpretation. “The show was amazing,” said she, “everyone prepared so well, and put their heart into performances!” Nevertheless, the language differences still hindered the non-Chinese speakers to understand, especially, the “spoken type” performances, Daria suggests to bring out English subtitles may overcome these difficulties.
Daria, Anton and their friends
“Language barrier was not an issue for me personally, but it may have been for someone,” explained one of the foreign students, Anton, from PHBS. He enjoyed the shows and greatly appreciated the organization and audience interaction of the party, saying that he would like to join a performance if it was not needing some specific talented skills. After the party, Daria, Anton and their friends together have taken a photo for memorizing the meaningful moment.
