为何需要学颇瓦？

2011年4月 仁波切在俄亥俄州戴顿市的噶尔卓玛佛学会带领颇瓦闭关时，弟子提问：为何需要接受颇瓦的教授？以下是仁波切的回覆：

我们每一个人终有一天都会死亡。在这个世间，没有人是不必死亡的。执着于这一生并无益处，因为这一生终究会过去。

正如《三十七佛子行》所说：「识客舍弃身客房。」因此我们可以自问：「为死亡做好准备，真的不重要？或是有那么一点重要？为何我要接受颇瓦的教授？ 」

接受颇瓦教授，就是接受获得解脱的方法。我们的身体有九个出口，死亡后神识由这些出口离开，但只有一个出口能够通向解脱，就是顶门。

透过颇瓦的教授，我们知道如何将神识经由顶门迁移出去。如果不知道这点，我们将被贪、嗔、痴、嫉妒等烦恼到处乱甩，我们无能自主，只能受烦恼的控制。

若是为烦恼所牵制，神识将由其他八个不净的出口之一离开身体，因而投胎到轮回当中。

佛陀曾说：「自主即是乐。不自主即是苦。」

One day each of us will die; there is no one in this world that does not have to die. There is no benefit in being attached to this life time, because it will be left behind.

As it is said in "The Thirty-Seven Bodhisattva Practices," "Consciousness, the guest, will cast aside the guest-house of the body." So, we can ask ourselves, "Does it really not matter whether I am prepared for death, or does it matter somewhat? Why would I want to receive Phowa instructions?"

If you receive Phowa instructions you receive amethod to attain freedom. The body has nine openings through which the consciousness can leave after death. Only one of them leads to freedom--the opening at the crown. When we receive Phowa instructions, we learn how to transfer our consciousness through the crown.

If we do not know this, we will be tossed around by afflictions such as hatred, desire, ignorance, jealousy, etc.,and thus, we will lack independence, we will be over powered by the afflictions.

Being controlled by the afflictions will cause the consciousness to leave through one of the eight impure openings of the body, which will lead to birth in samara existence. The Buddha said,"Independence is happiness; dependency is suffering.
