WeChat rolls out 'instant games' you don't need to install
Already China's most-used app, WeChat wants to make itself even more ubiquitous by allowing people to find and play games inside the messaging app.
1. ubiquitous
Hot dogs are the ideal road trip food—inexpensive, portable, ubiquitous.
Shawarma(沙瓦玛,中东烤肉卷) is the new street meat. Both a late night favorite and a quick lunch classic, the Middle Eastern dish is now ubiquitous on the streets of Toronto.
The company's advertisements are ubiquitous.
WeChat, which has nearly a billion users, today rolled out a handful of what it calls "mini games."(小程序) They're specially created games that work only within WeChat and don't require downloading or installing.
I tried out Tiao Yi Tiao, a simple but gripping game in which the length of your press on the character dictates how far you jump.
The story really grips the reader.
The scandal has gripped the nation.
Fear gripped Connecticut residents whose relatives and friends were in the path of the Category 5 storm.
3.dictate
Funds dictate what we can do.
How the team treats this break, and the coming months ahead, will dictate its ultimate conclusion.
The laws of physics dictate that what goes up must come down.
Killing off the app stores?
The move comes almost exactly a year after WeChat rolled out its "mini programs" – apps that don't need to be downloaded and installed.
WeChat's instant apps are gaining traction as more and more companies produce them, including global brands that are big in China like McDonald's, KFC, and Starbucks.
The poisonous chemicals have killed off the fish that once lived in this pond.
The pesticides killed the crops off.
Your insolent behavior has killed off any desire I might have had to help you.
5. gain traction [gain the support or interest that is needed for something to make progress or succeed]
The bill gained traction in the Senate and was passed by a large majority.
Analysts predicted that the technology would rapidly gain traction in the corporate mobile market.
The tweet quickly gained traction, and soon the brand joined the discussion, weighing in with a hefty helping of sass.
The product started to gain traction among consumers.
go viral
Definition: (of a video, image, story, etc) to spread quickly and widely among internet users via social networking sites, e-mail, etc.
Examples:
"Dude! There was this awesome clip of this kangroo beating the shit out of a man! Did you see it? It went viral last night on youTube."
During the New Year Holiday, two things went viral on Wechat moments: photos of people at their 18, and a game called "take a hop".
Example:
A: "Are you playing the game take a hop these days?"
B: "No, but I could see people playing it everywhere! Buses, subway, along the sidewalk...Gee, it is such a viral game!"
A: I know right!
A: 是吧!
Attention seekers
Bullies
Narcissists
