Russia’s Asia-Pacific diplomacy: recent achievements, issues, and prospects
Abstract: As the conflict with the West intensifies, Russia accelerates its pace in “turning to the East”, and becomes increasingly active in the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, Russia has sought not only to strengthen relationship with traditional partners, but also to maintain constructive interaction with Japan, the Republic of Korea, and other US allies in the region. However, due to its limited comprehensive national strength, Russia also faces considerable limitations in its AsiaPacific diplomacy. On the one hand, Russia needs to raise the weight of economic elements in its Asia-Pacific policy. On the other hand, the potential of Russia’s Asia-Pacific diplomacy depends to a large extent on the ability to diversify its approaches and partners. Following the extreme deterioration of Russia’s relations with the West, it is difficult for the Asia-Pacific region to remain a relatively independent space in Russia’s diplomacy. The cooperation between Russia and Asia-Pacific countries will face new challenges, with a possible simultaneous decline in the overall level of cooperation and relative rise in the status of the Asia-Pacific region in Russia’s diplomacy.

Moscow Religious Philosophy Association: origin, themes, and historical influence
Abstract: From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, intellectuals with ideological tendencies such as Marxism, liberalism and conservatism had all tried to set road signs for the future development of Russia. They wrote books and attacked each other one after another, forming an unusually active cultural landscape in the intelligentsia. Among them, Moscow intellectuals with liberal ideological tendency set up Moscow Religion Philosophy Association to commemorate Soloviyov. They not only criticized the ideological trends such as old materialism and positivism, but also criticized Christianity and its church in history, trying to respond to and solve all the problems Russian society faced by renewing religious consciousness and reforming the church. Through the exchange and dialogue with contemporary intellectuals, members of the Moscow Religious Philosophy Association not only formed their own distinctive theoretical systems, but also jointly promoted the cultural revival of the silver age and the birth of religious philosophy.

Current situation and impact of foreign labor migration in Russia
Abstract: After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, under the influence of multiple factors such as history and reality, Russia has become the center of attraction for labor migration in the post-Soviet area. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the scale of labor migration has kept increasing, with most migrants coming from CIS countries, especially from Central Asia, and there is a large number of illegal migrants among them. There are mainly three types of legal migrant workers in Russia: those who have a work permit, those who have a patent, and those who do not need a labor permit. Foreign labor immigrants have made remarkable contributions to the social and economic development of Russia. However, they have also exerted a negative impact on the country’s economic innovation, security, stability, and social unity to some extent.

The resurrection theme in Mandel’shtam’s poem Enough of Sniveling
Abstract: As one of the important representative poets of Acmeism in the Silver Age of Russia, Mandel’shtam has attracted wide attention in the field of international literary criticism. The poet’s meditations on culture, being, and death were epitomized in the poem Enough of sniveling (1931). From these three aspects, the poem presents the theme of resurrection. The “devil” in the poem is related to Faust. Yet, with the renewed understanding of the poet, it acts as a metaphor for the impediments as well as the external force that promotes the resurrection of “me”. As the poet’s favorite mentor, Villon has been artistically recreated and acts as the internal source of motivation for the resurrection of “me”. The “I” has a clear awareness of his or her state of being and maintains restraint while achieving spiritual revival. The profound meaning of resurrection is highlighted in the awareness of death.

The grotesque style of Makar the Doubtful
Abstract: Andrei Platonov is a Soviet writer known for his grotesque style. In his work, being grotesque is an important principle of organizing all artistic elements. In addition, being grotesque is also a unique prism through which he perceives the world around him. His short story Makar the Doubtful, written during his artistic maturity, is a masterpiece in the grotesque style. In this story, the thematic meaning, narrative skills, figurative image, and language expression are closely related and composed as a unified whole. Using the method of structure-function analysis, this article analyzes formation and presentation of grotesque style in this short story from three aspects, including theme, image, and language, and also interprets functions of these style elements in ridiculing maladies under the Soviet bureaucracy and expressing pains in the soul of people.

A new interpretation of The Analects in Russian sinology: interpretation methods used by Russian sinologis L.S. Perelomov
Abstract: This work is based on the research of The Analects by Russian sinologist L.S. Perelomov. Two monographs related to The Analects published in the 1990s and a translation into Russian language were used in this work. Author explored methods of studying The Analects used by Perelomov and defined two basic strategies for interpreting The Analects: “reproduction of the historical context of the text” and “deconstruction of Confucian cultural words”. The research has shown that during the translation practice of The Analects Perelomov applied interpretation strategy to annotations with the help of Thick translation theory. He also effectively added historical, cultural background knowledge, recreated magnificent episodes from classic Confucian literature. Perelomov’s translation of The Analects may be called the "new interpretation of The Analects” in Russian sinology.

A study on Confucius image in imperial Russia
Abstract: In Imperial Russia, a foundation was laid for the building of Confucius’ image. It can be found that people’s cognition of the image of Confucius had experienced a tortuous and complex process. In the 18th century, Russians highly praised the image of Confucius came from Europe. In the 19th century, influenced by multiple factors such as Russia’s self-demand, the development of Russian Sinology, and China’s own situation, Confucius was confronted with both praising and denouncing in Russia. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the in-depth development of Russian Sinology and the diversified development of Russian thoughts, the Russians’ understanding of Confucius became more rational, objective, and comprehensive. From this point of view, the Russians’ understanding of the image of Confucius is constantly changing, showing a pluralistic view of Confucius. This process tells us that if we hope to spread the image of Confucius and Confucianism objectively and comprehensively, we need to enhance the cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
