How Long to Get a Green Card?

When it comes to green cards, most people have the impression that they need to live in China for at least 4-5 years to meet the requirements. 

But in fact, there are more than a dozen ways to apply for it, including employment, reunion and talent. Each way requires you to live in China for a different period of time, and some don't even have a requirement on the length of residency! However, no matter how you apply for permanent residence, the final treatment is the same.

Regarding this, our team summarized the time required for various types of green card.

Group 1: Apply for PR anytime

1. Special personnel with recommendation letters 

For example, 

If you work in Shanghai ZhangJiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone or China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (hereinafter referred to as Double Zones), and meet the foreign high-level talent recognition standards, upon the recommendation of the Double Zone Management Committee and its recommendation letter, you can apply for permanent residence at any time!

2. Overseas Chinese doctor

If you are overseas Chinese working in China with a Ph.D, you can apply for permanent residence !  

3. Parent-child reunion

If one or both parents of a child are Chinese citizens, or foreigners with PR qualifications in China, and the child is under the age of 18 and unmarried, and has foreign nationality as confirmed by nationality examination, the child can apply for PR as a foreigner.

Notes

If the child is over the age of 18, he/she will never be able to apply for permanent residence under parent's name. Therefore, we recommend that you apply for a green card for your child before the age of 18, after which the permanent residence is still valid.

Group 2:Apply if youmeet these for 3 ,4 or 5 years!

1.Foreign high-level talents

If you have 85 points or above, or an annual salary of more than 600,000 RMB, you may have met the requirements of applying for a talent visa !

2. Investment applicant 

If you have invested in China and actually delivered registered capital of more than US $2 million, and not less than this standard for 3 consecutive years, you can apply for permanent residence as a foreigner.

3. If you have worked in China for more than 4 consecutive years, earned more than 600,000 RMBannually (pre-tax) in the 4 years, paid more than 120000 RMB annually in individual income tax and lived in China for at least 6 months annually in the 4 years, you can apply for permanent residence.

4.Marriage reunion

If you are married to a Chinese citizen or a foreigner who has obtained permanent residence in China for 5 years, and have resided continuously in China for 5 years(no less than 9 months annually) with a stable living guarantee and residence in China, you can apply for permanent residence in China.

You will need to provide:

-- A domestic bank deposit certificate of at least 200,000 RMB in the applicant's or spouse's name.

- A property right certificate or rental contract.
