D1 Are you ready? | 2019 HSBC “Future Star” Winter Camp

All mentors, campers and staff of HSBC “Future Star” Winter Camp in the north district arrived at the HSBC Building in Lujiazui at 9:00 am on Sunday January 27th for the opening ceremony of 2019 HSBC Future Star Winter Camp.

First of all, Ms. Chen Yanwei, the manager of the Sustainable Development Department of HSBC delivered a speech to introduce the strategic planning of sustainable development of HSBC to all the participants and mentors of the winter camp: the future skills, sustainable development network and entrepreneurship as well as sustainable finance. 

In terms of the future skills, HSBC's strategy is divided into two parts: to improve the financial management ability through public financial education and to enhance the employability through programs such as talent training program. In terms of the sustainable development network and entrepreneurship. HSBC has made outstanding efforts in developing new enterprises and supply chain sustainability. HSBC makes the commitment to support the sustainable supply chains of its clients and promotes the new business development. Meanwhile it supports the social entrepreneurship incubation plan in China. As for the sustainable finance, HSBC pays attention to sustainable financing and sustainable investment, thus puts forward five commitments, strictly controls environmental risks and water resources plans. 

At last, Manager Chen introduced HSBC's sustainable operation and employee involvement, such as the waste sorting scheme of HSBC Building and various volunteering activities. She made the announcement of the official beginning of the winter camp.

Next, Liu Jun, Project Manager of Green Light-Year and the lead mentor of our winter camp, introduced the schedule, task system and rules of winter camp.

At the end of the opening ceremony, Zhao Jiaxin, a special guest speaker of Green Light-Year and one of the Rhodes Scholars in 2018, shared his experience and thoughts with campers in three aspects: value orientation, game and balance, and action, from which all the campers benefited a lot. At the end of the sharing session, he also had an in-depth discussion with a number of members of the camp.

At 14:00, campers arrived at the Broad Pavilion of Shanghai Expo. Members of the Camp met the representative of Broad Company and Harvard Alumni Liu Yuyang, an independent architect, to talk about the sustainable development of architecture. 

As for the topic of sustainable architecture, Mr. Liu put forward three key words: culture, ecology and society. He discussed the relationship among “culture, ecology and society” and shared his architecture work, so campers had a further knowledge of the sustainable development of architecture.

Later, under the representative’s guidance, campers visited the Broad Pavilion of Shanghai Expo and knew more about the Broad company’s effort on the sustainable and energy saving products.

In the evening, mentors and members had a forum about internship and future career. Everyone participated actively in the forum and learned a lot.
