Saturday, 5th June
Dear Estelle,
I hope you're well and not working too hard! I've been preparing for my exams now for the last two weeks. That's why I haven't written for such a long time.
Since the beginning of this year we've been doing a project called "World Class". Have you heard of it? Not everyone in the class could take part, but luckily I could. The school chose a "twin school"
In a different area of the world. Our head teacher chose a school in Uganda, a country in Africa. They gave us someone to write to from that school. For three months, I've written to a girl called Louisa, who is the same age as me.
It's been so interesting to hear about her life. She's told me all about her school and described her daily life. I can't believe that her school doesn't have any electricity. She goes to school from eight o'clock in the morning until six o'clock in the evening. I can't believe how lucky we are here!
I love it because it's the first time I've thought about what life must be like somewhere else. I can't believe people miss classes here when everything is so easy for us. I think more people should help out with projects like this. At the weekend we're going to have a sports day to help raise money to send to the school. Perhaps one day I'll be able to go to Uganda and meet Louisa myself—who knows?
Lots of love,
Suzanne

Sadness and happiness are often talked about by people in their spare time. Most people want themselves to be happy for ever, but few know how to find happiness. Others say if you own lots of money and success, you will be happy. However, money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. A famous Greek thinker, Aristotle, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." That's to say, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future. For example, getting into college or getting a good job, which we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to living a happy life is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping or help out with some things around the house for an elderly person.
If you do above, you will be happy.

B. If you want to feel happier, you can go shopping for an elderly person.
C. Spending so much time thinking about the future can enjoy the present.
D. Active person may live a happier life than inactive person.
77. What's the main idea of this passage?

"Everything happens for the best", my mother said whenever I faced disappointment. "Don't worry. One day your luck will change."
I found Mum was right after I finished my college education. I had decided to try for a job in radio. I wanted to host a sports program one day. I went to Chicago and knocked at the door of every station. But I got turned down every time.
At one station, a kind lady said my problem was that I hadn't enough experience. "Get some work at a small station and work your way up," she said.
I went back home. I couldn't get a job there, either. Then my dad said a businessman had opened a store and needed someone to help him. But again, I didn't get the job.
I felt really down. "Your luck will change," Mum said to me. I tried another radio station in Iowa. But the owner told me he had already had someone. As I left his office, I asked, "How can someone be a sports announcer(播音员) if he can't get a job in a radio station?"
I was waiting for the lift when I heard the man called, "What did you mean? Do you know anything about football?" He put me in front of a microphone and asked me to try to imagine that I was giving my opinion on a football game. I succeeded.
On my way home, Mum's words came back to me, "One day your luck will change, son. And when it happens, it will be doubly(加倍地) good because of all the hard work you've done." At that moment I knew just what she meant.
