Start with Interest, Continue with Persistence, Succeed on Love

EPC CentralChinaNormalUniversity 2023-09-15

Editor's Note

"Interest is the best teacher."

The statement is supported by international students Yusupov Sadullo and Lin Miaoxuan. They have been fond of Chinese since they were young. During their study in CCNU, they maintained their love, enriched themselves, and made significant progress in their learning of Chinese.

Yusupov Sadullo (from Tajikistan):

Immersed in the language environment.

College of Urban and Environmental Sciences,

a sophomore student majoring in Tourism Management.

Yusupov Sadullo

Sadullo is good at hosting and shows great passion for recreational activities. He once participated in a large scale poetic musical performance. He got the third prize in the first Chinese Poetry Reading Competition in Hubei province and the second prize in "Myself and China" Essay Competition.

"It's a great pleasure for me to be admitted to one of the best universities in the world -- Central China Normal University," when asked about the first impression of CCNU, he responded, "From the first day at university, I have noticed that our university offers every student numerous opportunities for development. You can immerse yourselves in an unfamiliar system, work hard to study, compete with capable students and gain new experience and knowledge so as to become an excellent expert in our future career."

From his perspective, what matters most in learning a foreign language is to be exposed to the language environment. He reads many Chinese books, listens to Chinese songs and communicates with his classmates in Chinese to practice Chinese. In his opinion, "If we have the opportunity to learn in China, then we should learn Chinese diligently and seize all the opportunities in the language environment, that is to say, to communicate more with Chinese people, read more books, listen to Chinese songs and so on. If there is no way to learn a language among native speakers, I think the best way is to make a daily schedule for yourself that you need to adhere to. Every little step counts in learning a foreign language. Sure, water breaks down a mountain, they say."

Lin Miaoxuan (from Thailand):

Language learning requires constant

repetition and usage.

School of Politics and International Studies,

a master student majoring in International Relations.

Lin Miaoxuan started to learn Chinese from an early age. Fascinated with the beauty and the splendid culture of China, she came to CCNU in 2021. She indulges herself in learning Chinese which she has a great passion for and spares no effort to lay a solid foundation.  When asked what are the important influential factors in studying a foreign language, she mentioned motivation, effort, perseverance and habit. As an optimistic and diligent girl, although she encountered some difficulties along the way, she persisted in learning and was always eager to improve herself. In the end, she formed a good habit of learning Chinese.

She also enjoys the process of translation and really immerses herself in it. Therefore, she plans to become a translator in the future although her mother suggests her to be a teacher. She sticks to her dream with an unswerving spirit and studies assiduously. Besides, she has excellent Chinese recitation ability. Her reciting work "Yueyang Lou Ji" won the second prize of the foreign students' group of the 4th Chinese Classics Recitation Competition in Hubei province.

In addition to study, she joined the Calligraphy Class to better develop her interest and learn more about the profound Chinese culture. What's more, she took part in some social practice activities to enhance her practical skills. For example, she was a member of "Yang Lei Feng" volunteer service team and "Hua Yan Li Xing" social practice team in CCNU. In order to learn from the excellent youths and communicate with them, Lin Miaoxuan also participated in the China-ASEAN Climate Envoy: Youth Training Camp on Remote Sensing and Global Climate Change.

"Learning language is about using and repeating, and practice makes perfect." At the end of the interview, Lin Miaoxuan gave us this suggestion in language learning.
