After learning French, and a bit of Spanish, I have never had trouble understanding most of the popular European languages. Well, this was until I went to Germany. You see, if I want to buy a ticket, it will be easier to spot which word means a ticket because it is either billet, billete, and other varieties. But in German, it is “Fahrkarten.”

我学了法语和一点西班牙语之后,我对大多数流行的欧洲语言的理解从来没有遇到过困难。嗯,直到我去了德国。当我要买一张票时,其他语言很容易辨认那个单词是票,billet,billete和其他类似的单词。但在德语中,它是“fahrkarten”。

If that didn’t scare you at all, look at an innocent word like “Butterfly” which in German is “Schmetterling.”

如果这个没有吓到你,那就看看“蝴蝶”这样一个简单的词,在德语中是“schmetterling”。

Or maybe the word “Surprise” which is “Überraschung” in German.

或者“惊喜”这个词,在德语中是“Überraschung”。

Finally, the word “Science”, which is “Wissenschaft” in German, sounds more like witchcraft if you ask me.

最后,“科学”这个词在德语中是“wissenschaft”,听起来更像是”witchcraft”。

But not all the words are that scary, some words sound much more familiar. For example, “GoodMorning” which is “Guten Morgen” in German, or “Learn” which is “Lernen.”

但并不是所有的词都那么吓人的,有些词听起来更熟悉。例如,“Good Morning”在德语中是“guten morgen”,或“learn”在德语中的“lernen”。

The video below will make you laugh and illustrate further how different is German compared to other languages.

下面的视频会让你笑一笑,并进一步说明德语与其他语言的区别。
