Palestine is a country in Western Asia, it has played a prominent role in the ancient and modern history of the Middle East. Until nineteen forty-eight, Palestine referred to the geographical location between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. Now, Palestine theoretically includes the West Bank (a territory that divides modern-day Israel and Jordan) and the Gaza Strip (land bordering Israel and Egypt). However, control over this region is complex and the borders aren’t formally set.

Many areas claimed by Palestinians have been occupied by Israel for years. More than 135 United Nations member countries recognize Palestine as an independent state. The flag of Palestine has three equal horizontal stripes of black, white and green from top to bottom, overlaid by a red triangle emerging from the hoist (left).

Territories 领土
Palestinian Territories consist of two physically separate entities, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The West Bank, administered by the Palestinian Authority, has been under Israeli occupation since 1967; Gaza, under Hamas control. Both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority claim to be the sole legitimate Palestinian government, which places them at odds with each other.

Jerusalem in Arabic is known as Quds, the Eastern half of the city is under occupation and Palestinians hope that one day the part will become the capital city of their state.

Bethlehem 伯利恒
Bethlehem is a city located in the central West Bank, Palestine, about 10 km south of Jerusalem. Its population is approximately 25,000 people. The economy is primarily tourist-driven, peaking during the Christmas season, when Christians make pilgrimage to the Church of the Nativity. Rachel's Tomb, an important Jewish holy site, is located at the northern entrance of Bethlehem.

This is a coastal city that is cut off to travelers and residents alike due to the effective closure of Egyptian and Israeli borders. Gaza has been effectively blockaded by air, sea, and land since 2007 by Israeli Defense Forces.

Church of the Nativity 圣诞教堂
This is the major attraction in Bethlehem and it’s a religious pilgrimage for Christians. The Church is one of the oldest surviving churches in the world. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. People go there to see the Star, which is according to religious beliefs, Jesus’s birthplace.

There’s a nice mix of church bells and call to prayer happening in and around Manger Square – it is a cool place that has Christianity and Islam operating in harmony side by side.

Hisham’s Palace 希沙姆宫
Hisham’s Palace was built between the years 720 and 750 AD. It is also known as Hirbet al-Mafjar, which roughly translates to “flower water ruins.”

One of the oldest holy sites in the world, the Abraham mosque is one of the most influential holy sites in the world. It is believed to be the burial site of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Rebecca, and Leah. As such, its influence reaches all three of the major religions, being sacred to Christians, Jews, and Muslims alike.
