▲ The University of Sydney published on the social media platform the welcome message of the first batch of international students returning to the University.
On the morning of December 6, the first batch of international students who were stuck in their countries for almost two years because of the pandemic arrived at Sydney International Airport by a charter flight.
It is reported that the flight carried 250 students from 15 countries, including students from China, Canada, India and Thailand. Among them, 50 were Chinese students.
Although the planned border reopening measures by the Australian government were delayed by the announcement of the mutant strain Omicron, the pilot plan allowing international students to return to the country, which was announced in September was not affected.
According to the plan, batches of 250 international students will be returning to Australia every two weeks from December 2021, and the second flight carrying international students will arrive in Sydney on December 24.
So far, the schools participating in the pilot program include the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales, the Catholic University of Australia, Macquarie University, the University of Newcastle, UTS, etc.

According to the regulations, returning students must be fully vaccinated with the vaccine approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and will be quarantined after entering the country.
On December 6, all the Universities Participating in the pilot program sent staff and special vehicles to the airport to meet the students and take them to the isolation site, of which they are required to stay for 72 hours.
