Don't forget to read the latest update (released on March 12 afternoon) on taking public transportation in Shenzhen at the end of this article.
On March 10, the Shenzhen Transport Bureau clarified that all passengers taking public transportation in the city must provide a negative Nucleic Acid Test proof taken within 48 hours and a Venue Code.
The notice also addressed concerns by foreigners as well as Chinese people who can not readily present the Venue Code and a negative NAT proof.
I have already shared how can one enter public venues and use public transportation without a venue code as advised by the city authorities on this article (you can also click the link below to open the article):
Foreigners Don't Need to Scan Venue Codes
Since I was addressing only expats, I limited the scope of the article to just cover foreign residents in the city to shorten its length. But unfortunately, the article was misinterpreted and caused some misunderstandings. So here are some further explanations.
Q&A addressing foreigners & Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots who can not access the venue code as posted by the Shenzhen Transport Bureau.
In short: Since foreigners as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots can not access the venue code using their passports, they can use their Guangdong Health Code (GHC) and a negative Nucleic Acid Test proof taken within 48 hours to enter public establishments and use public transportation.
Who Needs to Present a Negative NAT Proof Taken Within 48 Hours?
The first image on this post is a screenshot of the announcement by the official account of the Shenzhen Transport Bureau, it states that "all persons must carry a proof of negative NAT taken within 48 hours to use public transportation along with other documents..."
So, the measure is not aimed solely at expats. Meaning, even if you can access the venue code (regardless of whether you are a foreign citizen, coming from other special administrative regions or a local), you will still need proof of a negative NAT taken within 48 hours. For example, see the image below:
"Transport brother, I haven't taken the booster shot yet, there is a chance to take one these days but I am afraid I can't take NAT within 48 hours of vaccination. How can I take the subway?" Asked a Chinese user.
This is one of the concerns that the notice addressed, among several others.
In conclusion, everyone in the city must have the proof of a negative nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours, or a proof of a test taken on the same day awaiting results.
Where Can I Take a Nucleic Acid Test for free?
Now for the pressing question, taking a NAT every other day, wouldn't it take a toll on one's wallet? How can people (including Chinese citizens) manage to take NAT every other day?
Shenzhen city have you all covered on this as it has set up hundreds of health centers and dynamic health centers where you can take the Nucleic Acid Test for free.
I highlighted the word dynamic above to emphasize that some of the centers' opening time and dates, as well as locations, might change to cover a wider area and population. But they come with time, date, and locations mentioned clearly to help people know where and when they can take the tests.
Remember, when you are in doubt, the community centers where you live will always have the best information and can even send health workers at your residence to give you a test for free (depending on severity at the location).
And here comes the list:
Note: I wanted to translate all these centers in English, but then that will be useless anyway since you would have to show a Chinese version to drivers or any local person to locate them~
Here I will just mention the district or street in English, so when you see yours, you can use the corresponding image to locate which one is near you.
Most of these centers are open from morning till 10:00 PM.
In case you don't want to ask people, you can always press the image to zoom it, then longpress and a menu will show up at the bottom where you can choose "Translate Image Text" to translate to English, or any language of your locale.
NB: Some of the centers may be temporary for today, or today and the day after tomorrow, we will update the list accordingly in future publications.
Longhua District
Longgang District
Yantian District
Dapeng New District
Nanwan Street
Bantian Street
Baolong Street
Longgang Street
NBB: We are still updating the list, if your district/street isn't mentioned above, please go to the front page of our account, choose chat/message and send the name of your district, we will send the location as soon as possible.
As usual, please consult your community center for information that will suit your needs best.
Latest update: To take public transportation in Futian, Luohu, Nanshan, Yantian and Bao'an, one needs a proof of Nucleic Acid Test taken within 24 hours.
For those who have taken the test on the same day (awaiting results) then a proof of taking the test on the same day, while holding a proof of a negative NAT taken the day before is required. This is according to the Shenzhen Transport Bureau's latest notice released today on March 12.
