Starting May 1, non-Hong Kong residents will be allowed to travel to the city, while the threshold for suspending a flight that carries Covid-19 patients will be raised from three to five.
In a statement issued Friday afternoon, the government added that the flight ban triggered by the “circuit-breaker” suspension mechanism will also be shortened from a week to five days.
Non-residents still need to present a valid vaccination record, a negative PCR test result conducted within 48 hours before boarding the flight, and the confirmation of the designated quarantine hotel for the seven-day isolation.
Meanwhile, travelers will need to conduct an additional rapid antigen test when undergoing the PCR test during the “hold and test” procedure at the airport.
The government explained that the arrangements aim to minimize risks and uncertainties brought by returnees and to persist in the goal of guarding against imported cases.
It is also to respond to the strong demands by the public as well as relevant sectors, it said in the statement.
