According to industry figures released on Monday, outbound foreign passenger flights from China are expected to increase by over 200 percent month over month in August as China continues to soften its travel policies.

After nearly being frozen for more than two years, outbound flights are now gradually returning as many local carriers have sped up the start of their international flight operations.

China Southern Airlines, based in Guangzhou, has revealed its August travel schedule, with flights to Europe indicating an increase from July. Wuhan and Shenzhen are two important departure points. Only routes out of Guangzhou, in the Guangdong Province of South China, were available in July.

In June, China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines announced that they would offer weekly service on 22 international routes, including Shanghai to New York.

As the COVID19 outbreak is being controlled, demand in the civil aviation sector is quickly rebounding, which also attracts more inbound flights from other nations, as evidenced by the progressive recovery of international routes.

The International Air Transport Association's Willie Walsh stated that despite border limitations being in place for two years, the yearning for travel freedom has not diminished. Demand is quickly returning to pre-COVID levels where it is allowed.

The desire for international personnel exchanges, such as foreign students returning to China, prompted the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration to announce in July that it would improve relations with other nations to increase international flights in the second half of the year.

China made one of its biggest changes since the COVID-19 pandemic in July when its embassies and consulates in 125 nations and territories announced new rules to simplify the entry process for visitors to the Chinese mainland. The requirement for an antigen test to be completed 12 hours prior to boarding a plane is among those modifications.

A further boost for the outbound travel sector came from the country's decision to cut the collective quarantine period for new overseas arrivals in half, from 14 to 7 days.
