New Brunch Alert: Shanghai Tavern, The Shanghai EDITION

Shanghai Tavern at The EDITION Shanghai has just launched a new weekend semi-buffet brunch featuring oysters, cold cuts and cheese, six different eggs benedicts, and mains. Free-flow included for ¥468!

The EDITION Shanghai is ramping up their restaurant offerings this year, starting off with a brand new brunch at Shanghai Tavern.

Shanghai Tavern is an all-day dining, brasserie style restaurant presented by Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton and executive chef Rossi Wei. It’s a posh, elegant setting with wide banquettes against the wall-to-wall windows that look out onto the Nanjing Lu pedestrian street. It’s airy with high ceilings and plenty bright.

Shanghai Tavern

Brunch is a semi-buffet priced at ¥398 per person with unlimited coffee, tea, and juice or ¥468 with free-flow selected wine and sparkling, available every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm.  

In addition to the semi-buffet, each person will also get: two freshly shucked oysters, two eggs benedict of choice, one main of choice, and one side dish.

New Zealand Marlborough Oysters with shallot emulsion, Bloody Mary gel, and chives; two per person.

On the buffet spread is a selection of freshly baked breads, mixed salad, a salad bar, cold cuts and cheese, fruit bowls, and desserts.

Mixed salads of kale & beetroot and avocado salad in addition to the DIY salad bar.

Cold cuts of salami, chorizo, and pastrami; cheese includes cheddar, red Leicester, double Gloucester, cranberry, and Wensleydale.

Brunch includes a choice of two eggs benedict.

Hummus & Spinach with Chickpea Salad Benedict

You can choose two of the same or mix and match. Selection includes smoked pork rib with toon sprout hollandaise, warm crab benedict with fennel and watercress, gin-cured salmon with rocket and cream cheese, hummus and spinach with chickpea salad, Full English, or half Boston lobster with chive hollandaise (add ¥88). I highly recommend the smoked pork rib.

The shredded pork rib is unbelievably juicy and delicious, combined with a bold choice of toon sprout added hollandaise, which imparts a slightly bitter yet floral flavor to the creamy sauce.

For mains, it’s a choice of Steak Diane with mushroom sauce, char-grilled Iberico pork chops with baby romaine, or char-roasted halibut with a spicy tomato salad and potatoes.

Side dishes include fried cauliflower with cheese sauce and bacon crumbs, barbecued sweet corn with chimichurri, or roasted broccolini with anchovy butter.

Desserts, also on the semi-buffet, include cakes by the slice, dark chocolate and milk chocolate mousse and a coconut-strawberry tart, as well as bite-sized tarts, cups, cakes, and choux.

As for drinks, it depends on which package you get. The brunch is ¥398 per person, which includes unlimited coffee, tea, and juice. It’s ¥468 for free-flow selected house wine and sparkling, which lasts a total of 3 hours. Yep, it's a pretty great deal.


Plus, Shanghai Tavern will run five days of brunch from April 29 to May 3 during the holiday season. Prices are listed as nett.
