Rising grain prices may affect the international grain supply chain.

To stop the novel coronavirus, some countries have banned (禁止) grain exports . Some people worry that this might affect the international food supply chain (供应链), the Paper reported.    On March 25, Vietnam, the world’s third-largest rice exporter, banned rice exports. The country mainly exports rice to the Philippines, China and several African countries. Similarly, countries such as Cambodia, Kazakhstan and Russia have also banned exports of certain agricultural (农业的) products.    The main problem with this is that some people have begun stockpiling (储存) food and other daily necessities. When supplies are not able to meet a sudden rise in demand, the prices of some products might increase in some local markets.    However, there is no need for China to worry, as it already has enough grain. According to Wei Baigang, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China’s food grain output has hit more than 600 million tons for five consecutive (连续的) years since 2014. Record agricultural harvests have been recorded for 15 consecutive years.    China relies (依赖) mainly on domestic (国内的) grain production and only 2 percent of the nation’s grain is imported (进口). The global price increase has had a very limited influence on China’s food prices, Wei said.     “Therefore, both the amount and price of food are stable (稳定的) and there is no need to stockpile it,” he said at a daily news conference on April 4.    But for less developed countries, increasing prices might make society unstable and even cause hunger, the Paper noted.
