‘Platonic Fractal’

Human analog to digital light. 

The metro station connects the wider Shenzhen metro system to OMA’s recently completed 60,000sqm Prince Plaza tower and via a 40,000sqm mall - an exemplar of transport oriented development.该地铁站通过一个40,000平方米的购物中心将深圳地铁系统连接到OMA最近完成的60,000平方米的太子广场大楼，这是交通导向型发展的典范。

Prince Plaza by Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)

This Shenzhen metro access point marks the principal entry for the majority of visitors to Prince Plaza.
这个深圳地铁通道是太子广场大多数访客的主要入口。

The movement and form of passers by are captured and reflected in ever changing patterns of light shadow and colour.< swipe <

In this heavily trafficked corridor space the installation reflects the passing peoples movements, by sensing human form, interpreting via a series of parametric algorithms and then outputting as abstract forms in light and shadow, loosely recognisable as a reflected human form and clearly mirroring the movements and actions of the passers by.  In this way the visitors become part of the work itself, empowered to create their own patterns on this digital canvas.
在这个人流密集的走廊空间中，该装置通过检测人形，经过一系列参数算法进行演绎，然后以光和影这种抽象的形式输出，影影绰绰可见一个人形，并清晰地反映出路人的移动和动作。这样，访客们便成为了作品本身的一部分，使他们能在数字画布上创造出自己专属的图案。

Large scale allows for viewer immersion in the work.

The installation comprises 205 identical modules that when read together form a whole greater than the sum of its parts.  
At a large 7m x 2.5m scale is designed for the viewer to loose oneself in the piece as the bounds of the work spill beyond the viewers field of vision and leading the eye deeper into the piece, becoming lost within the tessellating pattern.
该装置包括205个相同的组件，当一起观看时，它们形成的整体效果大于其各个部分的总和。
在7m x 2.5m的大屏幕上，观看者会沉浸其中，作品的边界超出了观看者的视野，所以会不由自主地投入更多的目光，最终迷失在镶嵌成花纹的碎片中。

Fractal in nature, there are hexagonal outlines that slip within one another and overlap with multiple patterns present.

The design is intricate and complex, however it has a resulting simplicity that is childlike and playful belying a rigorous design process of numerous iterations, prototypes and testing.
这项设计是错综复杂的，但是它又带有孩童般的天真，与大量迭代、原型制作和测试的严格设计过程格格不入。

Where the hardware ends, custom software interjects, sensing human form with depth sensing cameras interpret physical form as light and shadow. 
What in essence is highly complex form its light output is playful, child-like and has a simple beauty.
在硬件终端，插入定制的软件，使用深度感测相机检测人形，将物理形式演绎为光和影。
本质上高度复杂的形式，其输出的反而是孩子们可以玩乐的灯光，具有单纯的美好。

Hard form, soft light.

The light cast is both independently front and back facing, with each custom LED circuit board home to 16 diodes, with 205 units and 1,230 boards, 19,680 diodes, each one individually mapped, assigned and controllable.   

The intent for the forward facing light was to create a hexagonal grid of highly defined linear light with the armatures providing a skeletal topography, whilst the rear facing light is bounced off the rear more gentle topography of curves and petals, resulting in a less defined light whilst changes are more subtle diffused.
投射灯具有独立的正面和背面，每个定制的LED电路板装有16个二极管，包括205个配件和1,230个板，19,680个二极管，每个分别进行映射，分配和控制。

Design and manufacture drew from multiple sources using deep expertise in complex industrial processes.

Manufacture required a holistic approach with testing in 3D printed forms, final design settled a block of steel weighing 500kg was CNC milled to create the injection mould, from which formed plastic reflectors moulded, diffuser strips were laser cut from acrylic, and aluminium armatures extruded from steel dye and then CNC milled and powered coat finished. 1,230 custom printed circuit boards totalling 22,140 LED diodes and a myriad cables, controllers and transformers. 2 depth sensing cameras and a single PC control the sensing input and light data output.
制造需要一项采用3D打印形式进行测试的整体方法，最终设计是将一块重500kg的钢块进行CNC研磨以创建注塑模，然后将其模制成成型的塑料反光镜，激光切割亚克力散光片，并将铝制电枢铝型挤压，然后进行CNC雕刻，最后表面烤漆处理。1,230个定制印刷电路板，总计22,140个LED二极管以及无数的电缆，控制器和变压器。2台深度感测相机和一台PC控制感应输入和光数据输出。

As a construction site the metro connection appeared as a foreboding dark and dusty Subterranean warren, yet once later to be gilt with light, polish and the frenetic movement of people.
施工中的地铁站看上去像是一个黑暗，尘土飞扬，带有不详预感的地道，而后却被灯光，抛光和人们的迅速移动而点亮。

Analog human movement reinterpreted and mapped as digital light.

The sensing and programming interprets the human form in 6 distinct modalities, each a quality of its own with varying tempo and tone - couples are set to shift gradually giving a slow changing range of the spectrum, gradual shift is subtle enough almost not to notice until the full shift has occurred.  
感应和程序设计以6种不同的方式来演绎人形，每一种都根据其自身的节奏和调性而变化——逐渐移动会减缓光谱的变化范围，直到发生了完整的移动才能看到隐隐的变化。

The art work was fully commissioned by China Merchants Bank on 28th August 2020.
Curated by ToMaster - the project began in 2016 yet has been beset by delays - its eventual realisation is testament the wider teams perseverance and commitment to completion of this unique site specific art-work.
