摘要
ABSTRACT
This talk presents how effectively photonics technologies are implemented not only in generation, detection and transmission of continuous terahertz (THz) waves, but also in system applications such as communications, measurements, spectroscopy and imaging, in order to efficiently enhance their performance. After briefly reviewing key devices and components, first, wireless communications applications are discussed aiming at a data rate of terabit/s. Next, applications to measurement and sensing are explained, and as most recent examples, visualization of THz electric-field radiation and propagation, and THz information tags are presented. Finally, in order to make THz systems more compact and cost-effective, recent challenges in photonic integration technologies are described, which include monolithically integrated photonic signal generators, and hybrid integration schemes using, for instance, photonic crystal and related dielectric material platforms.

永妻忠夫
永妻忠夫教授是太赫兹通信的国际领军人物,IEEE Fellow,在超高速光子太赫兹核心器件及通信系统技术方面做出了杰出贡献。历任日本NTT电信实验室主任、微系统集成实验室主任、大阪大学教授、日本科学顾问委员会主任等职。
Prof. Tadao Nagatsuma received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, in 1981, 1983, and 1986, respectively. From 1986 to 2007, he was with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), Atsugi, Kanagawa, Japan. Since 2007, he has been with Osaka University, where he is a Professor at Graduate School of Engineering Science. His research interests include THz electronics and photonics and their applications to wireless communications, sensing, and measurement. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), Japan, and a Fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Photonics Technology Letters and the IEEE Trans. Terahertz Science and Technology, and a Vice President of the IEICE and the Terahertz Systems Consortium.
