Probing high-energy physical processes with gamma-ray observations

With its unprecedented spatial resolution and sensitivity, Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has revolutionized our view of gamma-ray sky. Not only have the populations of high-energy objects in our Galaxy and the universe been established, but also many interesting phenomena and related physical processes have been revealed. In this talk, I will present two intriguing cases we have recently worked on using Fermi’s gamma-ray observations. In case 1, I will show detection of a narrow line-like feature found in the gamma-ray spectrum of a blazar, for which we provide an interpretation requiring the existence of Axion-like particles (ALPs; candidate dark mater particles). In case 2, I will show a gamma-ray enhancement event found in a young supernova remnant (SNR). The event suggests acceleration of particles upto 10~PeV in young SNRs and likely reveals the more complicated side of young SNRs.
