Dr. Detlef Kratz
Detlef Kratz currently is President for Process Research and Chemical Engineering which includes heterogeneous and homogeneous Catalysis, Inorganics, Battery Materials, and Process Engineering, at BASF. The Research Division has more than 2500 employees across Europe, North America, and Asia. He studied Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and received his Ph.D. in 1991. After a Postdoc fellowship at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the US, he joined BASF in August 1992. In 2003 he was delegated to Singapore as Head of Regional Business Unit Petrochemicals, Asia Pacific. In 2008 he returned to Germany and took up the role as Head of Regional Business Unit Plasticizers and Solvents, Europe and later Industrial Petrochemicals, Europe. From 2012 to 2018 he headed Corporate Technology and Operational Excellence as Senior Vice President. In November 2018, he was appointed as President, Process Research and Chemical Engineering.

Holistic sustainable approaches are needed in the future to efficiently mitigate climate change, one of the most demanding global challenges. Sustainable solutions have to be found for materials, processes and energy supply. Carbon Neutrality and Energy transformation will be an important key driver for future innovations. It will bring challenges to the whole industry as well as offering new opportunities. In this presentation Detlef will share innovative solutions from Chemical Industry to pave the road towards Climate Neutrality.
