China Begins Equipping Airbus A320 Fuselages In Tianjin
One of Airbus’ suppliers in China began equipping Airbus A320 fuselages. By 2024, Xi’an Aircraft International will complete six fuselages per month, fully meeting the needs of Airbus’ final assembly line in Tianjin. The manufacturer said this further demonstrates its commitment towards vertical integration of its production in China.
On June 22nd, Airbus and China’s Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) launched their joint fuselage equipping project for the Airbus A320. The project, located in Tianjin, was first initiated over two years ago.
Locally, it is undertaken by Xi’an Aircraft International (XAT), one of the close to 100 subsidiaries of state-owned AVIC. The aim is to supply Airbus’ A320 Final Assembly Line Asia and to accelerate Tianjin as the center for the manufacturer in China.
The first delivery of the Tianjin fuselage is scheduled for the third quarter of this year. Production capacity is intended to reach six fuselages per month in 2024. XAT will then fully meet the demand for the Tianjin final assembly line.
China's latest mega-airport is officially open
China's long-awaited Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has officially begun operations, offering travelers a new gateway to the home of giant pandas.
Constructed at a cost of about 70 billion Chinese yuan ($10.8 billion), phase one of the massive aviation hub has the capacity to handle up to 60 million passengers per year, further opening up the country's southwest region.
Passengers prepare to board an airplane at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport
Three runways and two terminals, covering a total area of 710,000 square meters, are in operation. The airport will eventually house terminals covering 1.4 million square meters, capable of handling 120 million passengers annually.
For now, however, the new airport will only be catering to the former. China remains closed to most international travelers.
According to the latest figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), China's domestic traffic was up 6.8% in April 2021, compared to April 2019. The Baiyun International Airport in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou unseated Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson to become the world's busiest airport in 2020.

Hong Kong to ban all British travellers after adding UK to 'extremely high-risk' list
Hong Kong says it will ban all passenger flights from the U.K. starting Thursday as it seeks to curb the spread of new variants of the coronavirus.
It said in a statement Monday that the U.K. has been classified as “extremely high risk“ because of the “recent rebound of the epidemic situation in the U.K. and the widespread delta variant virus strain there.”
More than 95% of COVID-19 cases in the U.K. are of the delta variant, which was first identified in India. Cases have spiked in recent weeks as British authorities have relaxed coronavirus restrictions, allowing indoor gatherings and businesses including restaurants, cinemas and gyms to reopen. Scientists say the delta variant is much more transmissible than previous versions of the coronavirus, although it is uncertain if it is more deadly.
Under the classification, people who have stayed in the U.K. for more than two hours will be restricted from boarding passenger flights to Hong Kong.
It is the second time that the Hong Kong government has banned flights from the U.K., following a restriction imposed last December.
Although flights from the U.K. are banned from July 1, passengers can still book one-way flights from Hong Kong to London on airlines such as Cathay Pacific and British Airways.
