Tianjin asks government firms to move data out of Alibaba, Tencent clouds-document

Tianjin has asked municipally controlled companies to migrate their data from private sector operators like Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings to a state-backed cloud system by next year.
The push by Tianjin, a city of roughly 14 million people south of Beijing which has provincial-level status, comes as China tightens controls on how companies store and manage the vast troves of data they collect.

The Tianjin State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), which oversees local government-backed companies, said in the document dated Aug. 12 it was following instructions given by China’s cabinet, the State Council.

Companies hosting their data on third-party managed cloud platforms such as those by Huawei Technologies, Alibaba and Tencent will need to move to a government-run cloud it called “guoziyun”, that translates as “state asset cloud”, within two months of the contract’s expiration, the document said.

The Tianjin SASAC, Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Booster shots are recommended for 3 groups of people

Experts in China have recommended making booster COVID-19 doses available to specific groups, such as employees at higher risk of exposure to the virus and those who have weak immunity or are aged above 60, a health official said on Friday.

These people should get booster shot six months after completing their regular vaccination regimens, Zheng Zhongwei, an official at the National Health Commission, told a news briefing.

Zheng did not say whether China has already started giving booster shots, or when it would start.

Booster doses were appropriate for people working in the aviation industry, customs, borders, quarantine sites and specific medical institutions, as well as those who travel abroad to places where the virus is still spreading, Zheng said.

Further studies were needed to determine whether booster shots should be given to everyone, Zheng said.
对输入风险高的,比如海关、边检、航空、隔离点、定点医疗机构等单位工作人员,在完成免疫程序6个月后,可以开展加强接种;
免疫功能相对较低的人群,以及60岁以上的人群,他们感染后出现重症、危重症、死亡的风险要高于其他人群,对这类人群,在接种后6个月,可以开展一剂加强针;

Excessive '996' Work Culture Is Now Illegal In China

China's Supreme People's Court said the overtime practice of "996", working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, is illegal, taking aim at the controversial policy that is common among many Chinese technology firms.
China's top court and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Thursday published guidelines and examples on what constituted as overtime work, saying they were focusing on the issue as it had attracted widespread attention recently.

It outlined 10 court cases - including but not limited to the tech industry - in which employees were forced to work extra hours, or put in harm's way.

In one case, an unidentified tech firm asked employees to sign agreements to give up overtime pay, which the court ruled unlawful.

In another, a media staffer passed out in the office restroom at 5.30am before dying of heart failure. The court ruled the death work-related and asked the company to pay the victim's family about 400,000 yuan.

Last month, TikTok owner ByteDance on Friday said that it would formally end its weekend overtime policy from Aug. 1, two weeks after its short-video rival Kuaishou announced a similar decision.

The court and ministry's criticism of "996" also comes amid a wide ranging Beijing-led regulatory crackdown on country's technology giants that has targeted issues from monopolistic behaviour to consumer rights.
