Can you Believe a 9-year-old boy is Headmaster?

Nine years old is a time of innocence. 

Children are active, obedient or naughty, and still need care from their parents. However, the child we are going to introduce you to today is very different.

This school in San Juan, Argentina is quite simple and shabby, yet it’s managed to attract heavy media attention.

Why?

Its headmaster is 9 years old!

Nicanor Quinteros lives in San Juan with his family, he is kind and has always studied hard. Growing up, many of his classmates could no longer afford tuition fees, so they had to drop out of school.

This made Nicanor very sad. He expressed his wishes to his grandmother about the idea of opening a school with zero tuition.

Many people thought this was a joke or unable to accomplish but his grandmother took his words to heart.

Opening a school is not easy. It requires a lot of time and money. Nicanor struggled to prepare various documents. His grandmother saw his hard work and wanted to help, so she opened up a space for her grandson in her backyard.

Made from a simple frame out of old wood, a few old canvas covers for the roof, and surrounded by old iron sheets. They placed vegetables boxes inside as tables and chairs and used cardboard boxes as a makeshift blackboard. 

Nicanor and his grandmother use recycled paper to bound together exercise books for students.

In this way, this simple but meaningful school was founded. Nicanor named the school "Unity and Homeland".

When he opened, there were only a few students. All of whom were eager to learn despite being unable to continue their studies for various reasons.

Nicanor says, “studying here is not easy. It’s not just playing. There are strict exams.”

Nicanor attends school in the morning and then rushes to teach his classes which run 2-6pm every day.

Nicanor teaches 6 primary school courses along with kindergarten classes. His main focus is mathematics, reading and writing. The school now has dozens of students from toddlers to elementary age, and even middle-age.

Martina, a 40-year-old woman who was unable to read, heard about Nicanors’ free school and decided to take a look.

Listening carefully to Martina's introduction, Nicanor was excited and overwhelmed, "If learning can change your life for the better, then I have done my job. That is the purpose behind why I opened this school.”

Through her studies at Nicanors’ school, Martina is now able to read the newspaper and is progressing rapidly.

The "Unity and Homeland" school has helped many people fulfill dreams and create a better future for themselves.

The shabby schools support many people's hopes for the future.

With such intense work, many would think Nicanors own studies would fail, but they do not. He maintains high scores and stays ahead in all of his own classes.

This is Nicanors office.

His kindness quickly spread in this small town and many have taken initiative to help. 

Vegetable box tables and chairs have been upgraded and they even have their own blackboards now! 

Nicanor and The "Unity and Homeland" school has been widely reported, congress marvels at Nicanors benevolence and senate presented him with a certificate in honor of his noble work in education

Inspired by Nicanor, many businesses and government officials have proposed a new school building that is safe, clean and well-equipped for students.

With one ‘crazy’ idea from a driven kind 9-year-old, this school blossomed providing a better future for many!

I believe in the near future, we will see more and more people step up in this same manner.
