A foreign teacher working as a coach at the Shenzhen Nanshan Foreign Language School was recently filmed helping to rescue a drowning man at Dameisha Beach in Shenzhen.
The 47-year-old Srđan Gašić, later told reporters during an interview that the most important thing is that the man's life has been saved.
Srđan is from Serbia, he has been living in China for 5 years now and he moved to Shenzhen in August last year.
He told reporters that he went to the Dameisha beach with his wife that day and at around two o'clock in the afternoon, they heard a cry for help coming from the waters, but because the waves were quite strong at the time, he couldn't pinpoint exactly where the cries were coming from.
He then saw a lifeguard jump off the observation deck, and by following the direction the lifeguard was swimming to, he saw the drowning person's head above the water, almost motionless.
Srđan said the lifeguard was alone and was calling for help from others so he also quickly jumped into the sea and help pull the drowning person to the shore.
While performing first aid measures, Srđan noticed that when pressing on his chest to help him breathe, the individual had blood coming out from his nose and mouth. Furthermore, his skin was already pale and laid down lifeless. He quickly realized that the situation was very critical.
More lifeguards came to help while they kept performing CPR on the individual.
About 7 to 8 minutes later, the ambulance arrived and quickly took the individual to the hospital.
Dameisha Tourism's official account published a post on the afternoon of the next day, announcing that the rescued man was stable after treatment at the hospital.
