A college graduate in Hangzhou unfriending 90 percent of her classmates and teachers on WeChat upon graduation spurred harsh replies from those who were unfriended.
Beforehand, she sent a message saying “We’ll never meet again, so out of courtesy, we should unfriend each other. Best wishes to you.” To notify her classmates and teachers.

However, according to Liaoshen Evening News, a news outlet based in Shenyang, Liaoning province, the graduate later discovered that many people were annoyed by her actions. Some even responded by sending friend requests containing curse words.

During an interview, the graduate explained that she had minimal familiarity with the individuals in question, and it was highly unlikely that there would be any contact or communication after graduation. In an effort to avoid unnecessary social obligations, she made the decision to remove them from her contacts. Only two close acquaintances were spared.

Her actions quickly gained attention on Weibo, a Twitter-like platform in China. One Weibo user named Man Tian Dou Shi Da Xing Xing commented, “There was nothing wrong with what this girl did. It’s perfectly fine to cut loose from classmates she didn’t like. I support her decision to avoid meaningless social interactions and to do what she wants.” Another netizen named Lan Mei Mei expressed a differing view, stating, “That was a hasty move. You should have waited until after the graduation photo.”

But not everyone supported the graduate’s behaviour. Weibo user Xiao Cao Mei simply stated, “There’s nothing to be proud of, and this behaviour only demonstrates low emotional intelligence (EQ).” Tian Ju Zi, a different user, commented, “It’s clear you’re not good at managing relationships. Particularly deleting your teachers demonstrates immaturity and a lack of manners.
