China has introduced further convenience measures for foreigners to apply for visas and residence permits. From the end of August, residence permit applicants would no longer need to leave their passports at the immigration office when they apply for the permit.
The measure was announced by the Ministry of Public Security during a press conference today, and it is among several measures that were enhanced to ensure the high-quality implementation of public security services. Starting at the end of this month, foreigners applying for residence permits will no longer need to leave their passports at the immigration office while waiting for the permit to be issued. The measure has been implemented to meet the practical needs of foreign nationals as they are waiting for the issuing of their residence permits, said Jia Tongbin, Deputy Director of the Foreigners Management Department of the National Immigration Administration
It covers foreigners who are already in China for work, study, scientific research, investment, innovation & entrepreneurship, and visiting relatives in China. The implementation ensures that applicants can continue carrying out regular social activities such as travel, registering for accommodation, filing for taxes, banking, etc. when they are waiting for the residence permit to be issued. The move will benefit at least 700,000 people annually, and it is geared towards creating a more efficient and convenient business environment, as well as creating a foreign-friendly environment. It is also curated to further stimulate market vitality, and promote a high level of transparency and high-quality development.Another measure updated for foreign businessmen who want to come to China for business-related matters is a streamlined approach towards granting visas at the port of entry for business people who can’t apply for a visa when they are abroad in time. They can apply for port visas to enter the country with the invitation letter and certification materials of the enterprise.
As business-related personnel may need to travel to China back and forth multiple times, they can apply for a 3-year multiple entry visa after entering the country."This measure will further promote cross-border trade personnel exchanges, facilitate foreign executives, merchants and other personnel to carry out trade cooperation, investigation and negotiation and other business activities in China smoothly and efficiently."It will also help domestic enterprises’ development in the new round of industrial revolution, further guarantee foreign personnel exchanges, and maintain the safety and stability of the industrial chain," said Jia Tongbin.
