Police in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, were filmed using a loudspeaker to warn residents not to fall victim to a fraud scheme which they alleged was set by a foreigner who was selling pictures outside a subway station.The man who was accompanied by a little girl that people assumed is his daughter, wrote in Chinese on a whiteboard "Hello, buy our pictures, help us with our journey across China. You can pay any price, thanks!" The pictures were taken in various spots around the globe such as Indonesia, Greece, etc., and people thought that he took them while traveling around the world. However, people quickly found that they were stock pictures that anyone can download from the internet.It is not yet clear whether someone tipped off the police or the police discovered the scheme by themselves, but two police arrived at the scene with a loudspeaker and cautioned people against buying such pictures as it was a fraud.
Netizens' opinions were divided, with some taking the side of the man while others ridiculed him and called for more measures to stop such activities."Begging from abroad all the way to China." Commented another user.Some defended him, a user from Dalian commented "The pictures aren't exactly the same, he might as well have been there and took the pictures himself."
