According to reports from Fox News and the New York Post on August 9, one of the black girls who abused and beat Asian passengers on the New York subway for no reason last week has been arrested. At 8:00 p.m. local time on August 3, three teenage girls sat across from an Asian family on the Manhattan subway. The three of them pointed and laughed and taunted the family before the taunts escalated into insults, curses and threats.▲Video screenshot (Source: New York Post)This Asian family is from Nevada and is a family of four. 51-year-old Su Yang is a retired doctor. She and her husband took their 11-year-old twin daughters on vacation in New York.As the girls’ vitriolic remarks intensified, other passengers asked the couple if they had said something unkind, prompting the girls to attack, which Young said had not.“The only thing I could possibly say is that we also support Black Lives Matter, why are you doing that? Why are you so angry?” Yang said.Another Asian woman, Joanna Lin, noticed the scene and took out her mobile phone to film it, only to be beaten by the girls. At this time, Yang couldn’t sit still, she stood up to stop her, and she was also beaten. “One of the girls stood up, walked up to Joanna, and punched and punched. I stood up, and another blonde girl came up and yelled ‘what are you going to do?’” Yang recalled. As soon as Yang pushed the blond girl’s shoulder away, the black girl rushed over, grabbed her hair and beat her. Yang’s glasses were knocked off, and her arm was caught in two handrails during the struggle, causing severe abrasions.Eventually, other passengers in the car pulled them away and protected Yang. Yang and his family later got off at the next stop. When the subway arrived at the Broadway Lafayette station, the three girls who hit them fled. After the footage captured by Joanna Lin was circulated on social media, it caused outrage among netizens. At 9:45 a.m. local time on Tuesday, one of the black girls turned himself in at the Sixth Precinct in Manhattan. Police did not release her name because she was only 16, and she was charged with two felony counts.Despite the beatings and verbal abuse, Young told the media she did not believe she was being attacked because of her race.“They are very young girls,” Yang said, “and they may be under a lot of pressure, whether it’s historical pressure, social pressure, but we need to hold everyone accountable, not just law enforcement.”Yang’s husband, who believed the girls “didn’t receive a good education,” said: “Girls need to understand that these (behaviors) are responsible.”The NYPD did not say whether they were looking for the other two girls involved.
