Police in Ningbo alerted their Shanghai counterparts on the morning of October 18 informing them of the finding of the body of a girl on the mudflat in Zhenhai District, Ningbo City, which matched the description of the girl who went missing on a Shanghai beach earlier this month.
The Shanghai police quickly dispatched a team to Ningbo for further inspection. After conducting a forensic examination of the girl's body and through the missing girl's family member's confirmation, it was concluded that the body was that of the girl who went missing at a beach in the Pudong area, Shanghai.
The forensic examination also revealed that the time of death of the girl in Ningbo was consistent with the time of disappearance of the girl in Shanghai.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Furthermore, the girl's clothes were still intact when she was found, with no evidence of violent damage to her body, and the reason for her death was marked as drowning.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
The police also ruled out the possibility of murder and did not file for a criminal case for the girl's death.
The case attracted widespread attention on social media when it was first reported earlier this month, with many people praying for her safe reunion with her family.‍‍‍‍‍‍
The disappearance also unleashed a heated discussion online with many netizens condemning the father for leaving the little girl alone for 10 minutes at the beach when he went to retrieve his phone.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
"Why did he leave the little girl alone at the beach?" Asked one netizen.
"He only came back right after she disappeared, why?" Questioned another.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
▲"I hear the parents are live streaming and sell products online, if that is true, I am lost for words." Commented one netizen.
Others have gone so far as to accuse the parents of using the attention caused by the news of this tragedy to earn money by opening a livestream and selling stuff online.‍‍‍‍‍
However, many have doubted the story that they are using the tragedy to earn money, saying that there is no evidence to prove it.‍‍‍‍‍
It is worth noting that this tragedy would have been easily avoided if the parents had not left this 4-year-old girl alone at the beach. And it is a painful lesson for parents everywhere, that children that young should not be left unattended at any moment.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
"Children must never leave their parents' eyesight without the company of a trusted and reliable adult." Wrote many netizens.
Meanwhile, a 2-year-old girl who had her right kidney severely injured and her ribs fractured after being attacked by an unleashed Rottweiler in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, is reportedly in stable condition after emergency surgery.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
A doctor at the hospital where the girl is being treated told reporters that she suffered more than 20 bites on the right side, with the longest one being 8 cm long.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
“It was such tremendous shock even to a surgeon with 20 years of experience,” the doctor told reporters.
The Rottweiler is reportedly still at large, and the local subdistrict authority has sent out hundreds of personnel to search for the dog.‍
The Chengdu municipality bans raising large fierce dog species, including Rottweiler, Tibetan Mastiff, German shepherd and Akita. There are rules and regulations on vicious dogs injuring humans in the Civil Code as well as local regulations.
According to the Civil Code, for fierce dogs prohibited from being kept as pets, owners who violate relevant provisions shall bear strict tort liability.
The owner of the dog has been placed under criminal detention by the local police, while they are waiting for further investigation on the case.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
