Switzerland joins the growing list of countries granted visa-free access to China, a significant step in facilitating travel for Swiss citizens.▲Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin (Front R), and Wang Shouwen, Chinese Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, shake hands after signing a joint statement of the free trade agreement on January 15th 2024.China is set to apply unilateral visa-free policy to Switzerland, and the Swiss side will provide more visa facilitation for Chinese citizens as well as Chinese enterprises investing in Switzerland, the two countries announced on Monday.The announcement was made during talks between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and President of the Swiss Confederation Viola Amherd.They added that China and Switzerland will take the opportunity of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year to strengthen people-to-people exchanges.The Swiss government said in a statement that the two sides "discussed the deep and wide-ranging bilateral relations characterised by dialogue on around 30 issues, as well as a range of current international affairs".China has been Switzerland's most important trading partner in Asia since 2010 and is its third most important trading partner globally, after the European Union and the United States.The two sides signed a joint declaration following a study on how to further develop their free trade agreement, Bern said, hailing this as "an important step towards the start of possible negotiations".
