China has released a guideline to accelerate the establishment of a unified domestic market amid efforts to build a high-standard market system and promote high-quality development.

《中共中央国务院关于加快建设全国统一大市场的意见》近日发布，旨在建设高标准市场体系、促进高质量发展。

China defines a unified domestic market as highly efficient, rules-based, fair, and open. It will remove local protectionism, market segmentation, or impediments restricting economic circulation, thus facilitating the smooth flow of products and resources on a larger scale.

意见强调，要加快建设高效规范、公平竞争、充分开放的全国统一大市场，打破地方保护和市场分割，打通制约经济循环的关键堵点，促进商品要素资源在更大范围内畅通流动。

Instead of promoting a closed domestic cycle, the unified domestic market helps domestic and international cycles reinforce each other by making effective use of global factors and market resources and better connecting the domestic market with the international market.

全国统一大市场不是封闭的内循环，而是国内国际循环相互促进。要有效利用全球要素和市场资源，使国内市场与国际市场更好联通。

At least five people were shot and 13 were injured on Tuesday morning at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York, local media reported, citing law enforcement sources.

Hurricane-force winds, torrential rain and hail whipped Anyue county in Sichuan province for three hours on Monday, knocking down or damaging 103 houses and injuring 20 people.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that its consumer price index jumped 8.5% in March from 12 months earlier, the sharpest year-over-year increase since 1981. Prices have been driven up by bottlenecked supply chains, robust consumer demand and disruptions to global food and energy markets worsened by Russia’s war against Ukraine. From February to March, inflation rose 1.2%, the biggest month-to-month jump since 2005. Gasoline prices drove more than half that increase.

A devastating flood in South Africa's eastern coastal province earlier this week has left at least 341 people dead, the government said on Thursday, as rescuers continued to hunt for missing people amid forecasts of yet more rains from Friday.
