30 Firefighters Lost in Tragic Fire in Sichuan Province

At 17:00 on March 30^th, a forest fire broke out in Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan province.

On the afternoon of March 31^st, 689 soldiers and local firefighters of Liangshan a sub-detachment of the Sichuan forest fire brigade, launched a rescue operation in the primeval forest. 

The ignition point was about 3,800 meters above sea level with complex terrain, steep slopes, deep valleys and inconvenient means of communication and transportation.

In the action of putting out the fire, affected by the sudden change of wind direction, the forest fire suddenly exploded and instantly formed a huge fireball. The firefighters on the scene took emergency measures to avoid danger and 30 firefighters lost contact with each other.

As of 18:30 April 1^st, the lost 30 firefighter’s bodies have all been found.

We can't imagine how much pain and suffering they went through in their last moments and how the remaining loved ones of these brave firefighters are coping right now.

Most of the victims were young men born in the 1990s, some of whom were newly married or just starting life in the workforce.

Residents take hada, white silk scarves that signify goodwill and purity to a funeral in Xichang, Sichuan province to pay tribute to the 30 victims. 

Being a fireman is a dangerous and exhausting career. They work so hard to save lives and homes, while often times putting their own at risk.
