Tightened security for Shanghai to Beijing trains this month

From today (October 9) to October 30, train travellers going from Shanghai to Beijing should plan to arrive even earlier than usual ahead of departure.
Increased security will be taking over Shanghai’s railway stations for the lead-up to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party. That means extra long waits for passing through security at Hongqiao and Shanghai Railway Stations. Police will be doing extra checks and x-raying luggage in waiting areas.
While the stations shouldn't be as busy as they were over Golden Week, long waits are nothing new for the average China traveller, but the need to plan around extra security should not be brushed off this time.
