The Eighteen Scenes | 十八个现场

Reflecting the Sharing Moment | Section Four

Through several months of planning and preparation, the online exhibition project "Reflecting the Sharing Moment" (abbr. RTSM) of CAFA ART INFO has launched its first section "More Than The Immune Problem" in September 2020, followed by the second section "Tearing & Regenerating", the third section "The Island" and the last section "The Eighteen Scenes". The exhibition invited a total of 61 artists/groups from diverse countries around the world to present and share their thoughts and creations in the face of the pandemic and the social situation under the catastrophe.

In the last week of the Gengzi Year, RTSM has finally come to its last chapter with creations from Dadawa and Martina MORGER. As Dadawa once addressed, "In this world, we are observers as well as creators of boundaries. No one is a pure 'receiver'; each person is a part of the piece, the operation of one's awareness and internal energy transformation participates in as well as creates the scene." Although it is difficult to summarize all the variables, challenges and opportunities encountered, confronted and experienced by human society in 2020, we eagerly hope that art and thoughts can continue to bring strength, hope and comfort amidst all kinds of hardship, hesitation, and dilemma.

辞旧迎新之际,艺讯网团队祝愿即将到来的牛年万象更新,我们也将在新的一年中,继续传递与分享艺术的思想与力量。祝新的一年充满欢愉、勇气、爱与和平,而我们一直“共在此时”。

On the occasion of ringing in the Chinese New Year, the team of CAFA ART INFO wishes the upcoming Year of the Ox will bring something wonderful and new, and we will continue to pass on and share the ideas and power of art in the new year. May the coming Chinese New Year bring the world joy, courage, love and peace, and we have been always standing together to experience and reflect on the sharing moment!

Mind and matter are not opposites

They are two dimensions of energy

They interact and mutually transform

Matter serves as a medium for mind

In the process of mind transforming to matter

Its energy released by the other

Dispersal of energy stimulates further mental activity

Thus unfolds the ecology between mind and matter Mind and matter are not opposites

“Sense of Hearing” is Dadawa’s first sound art piece. This large-scale interactive sound installation is a multimedia fusion of hearing, seeing, optics, improvisation, performance art and field sampling.

It is a participatory work requiring ears and listening. In this piece, Dadawa realizes the transformation of roles between actors and the audience. In this debut work she creates an accessible framework of sound for the visitor.

Each person entering this sonic environment is not only the seer and the listener but also the creator. Discovering water and light as media, realizing visibility through the energy of sound waves, the artist uses the exhibition space to create for the audience and herself an energetic work of internal perception, which pays attention to both the spiritual and material, a meditative space where the abstract and representational interact and transform with each other.

Martina MORGER

 "Lèche-Vitrines"

Martina Morger is a performance artist who also works with multimedia. She reflects on femininity as a device and claims space as a political body. Through her work, one discovers an engagement with the limitations of individual freedom in regard to technologies. Her main practice is inspired by cyberfeminism and care, and her work is primarily concerned with women’s placement within society, but also queerness in regards to cybernetical hybridisation. Exploring female and queer voices—or lack thereof—domesticity, repetitive action and hidden labour she works primarily with performance and enjoys investigating the borders to other media. Her embodiment of different personas speaks to fluidity and its possible societal implications.

Lèche-Vitrines was a performance in the public space of Paris during the confinement period as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the French phrase for ‘window shopping’, which literally translates to ‘window licking’, Martina strolls around the streets of Marais, one of the most fashionable districts, inspects the products on display and licks the separating glass. With the objects of desire coming both from daily life as well as luxury products, Lèche-Vitrine depicts an absurd pursuit for individualism inside a capitalised environment.
