Exhibition Overview

Chen Che’s solo exhibition Blow Up will be shown in Hall 3B of the Shanghai Himalayas Museum from November 11th to December 17th, 2023. This exhibition is the first solo exhibition launched by Shanghai Himalayas Museum's academic project "Cocoon-break · Himalayas Young Artists Series Solo Exhibitions " and will display nearly 30 works by artist Chen Che. Colorful matrices of bubbles, tubes, bars, and columns, cell bodies under the microscope, stardust blooming in the universe...No matter what, one thing is for certain, Chen Che’s art is about our own bodies and the world around us. His canvases are the results of an intuitional artist entangling with brushes, air spray, rollers, and pigments in fighting against “horror vacui”, the magnified projection of the artist’s inner senses and sensitivities.
Red Growth No.3-2020, 50×40cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2020 ©Chen Che
Chen Che’s works present to the audience a personal, mysterious and unknown world, working with a variety of techniques and mediums to create an idealized natural landscape rich with meaning and visual pleasure, exploring the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, memories and dreams, the paintings comment on the relationship between reality and imagination, the “inside” world of feelings, ideals and “outside” world of the environment.
Dark Water No.3, 125×155cm, Oil on canvas, 2016 ©Chen Che
Blow Up uses a confusing way of cognition to display an alternative world that simultaneously belongs to the distant universe and the existence of life around us. Inside Chen Che’s paintings, a utopia where peace love and unity, species of all kinds could live equally tougher. Blow Up is curated by Wang Kaimei.
