Think Pink: CHEERS first Prosecco Rose is here!

Pink Prosecco
/
「Pink Prosecco is red hot in the wine world. A refreshing tipple gaining quick popularity after being approved as a style just over a year ago, and being approved for export last November, thanks to the rulers of this bubbly wine from northeast Italy--the Prosecco DOC* Consortium.」

So, what’s the difference with regular old white Prosecco?
A major one involves the allowed grapes. Like its older sibling, pink Prosecco must use the grape Glera as a base. But it can also include up to 15 percent of Pinot Noir—with those dark purple skins providing extra color and flavor—and qualify to use the Prosecco DOC* Rose designation.
And many people are doing just that. In fact, this bubbly has become so popular so quick that some predict there will be a Pinot Noir shortage.

# Luckily, you can try Tussock Jumper Prosecco Rose, the first wine in this category stocked by CHEERS.
# And it is a subtle pour, a pale peach-colored wine with white flower, peach and red berry aromas—think raspberry, strawberry and yangmei—that carry over to the flavors. This wine has a medium fizziness, is listed as “extra dry”, which means just a touch sweet, and is quite crisp at the finish.

Fans of Prosecco will most likely be delighted with this one. And for those who prefer their bubbly a touch sweeter and fruitier, try slipping a few strawberries or yangmei into the glass. Happy drinking.
* DOC means Denominazione di Origine Controllata and is part of the wine classification system in Italy. Each of the 300-plus DOCs, including for Prosecco, have rules about what grapes are allowed, the maximum yields of the vineyards, and so on.
