What could be healthier and less hangover-inducing than an entire conference dedicated to fitness and health? Head down to the China National Convention Center on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week for this vegan-themed event, which includes workshops, health-related activities, animal rights awareness exhibitions, and a special talk from Patrik Baboumian aka "the world’s strongest vegan." Wednesday, Jun 6
Head to Boers-Li Gallery this week for Ye Linghan’s solo exhibition, Lucy Episode II: Dance, Tattoo, Data Carnival. The show is comprised of works from the artist’s ongoing painting series (also pictured at top), which explores "the ubiquitous presence of the Internet in every aspect of our lives" and Ye's need to "translate this reality into his artistic practice under the fictional protagonist Lucy." Thursday, Jun 7
It's nearly the weekend but you're in serious need of some light relief to get you through Friday. Look no further than The Bookworm's new Comedy Club China free comedy nights on the first and third Thursday of every month. This Thursday promises big laughs, with some of Beijing's top comedians honing their sets before heading down to the Shanghai Comedy Competition. Free. 8pm. The Bookworm
Friday, Jun 8
On Friday, members of Beijing's queer community and gender-conscious gather to discuss what it means to be queer through the medium of storytelling. The event will explore what it means to be queer as well how being queer may help or hinder your connections with other people. Proceeds from the event go to China AIDS Walk. RMB 30. 8pm. Saturday, Jun 9
On Saturday, meanwhile, the Beijing LGBT Center ushers in its 10th birthday with an afternoon of free-flow drinks (control yourself!) and canapés as well as entertainment from drag queens, professional dancers, bands, and a raffle. The Center invites you to celebrate a decade of LGBT+ rights awareness in the capital in an attempt to build a safer place for the community. Guests are advised to come dressed as a color of the rainbow and proceeds will go directly towards helping the operations of the Center. RMB 488, RMB 388 (early bird). 1pm onwards. Sunday, Jun 10
Stuck as to what to do on Sunday? Head to this weekly meetup to make use of your Mandarin and learn how to play Chinese games like a pro. There'll be a variety of prepared topics and vocabulary exercises so that conversation never dries up and you can select which level you prefer based on your own perceived abilities. Best of all, it's a way to make friends and meet people you wouldn't otherwise have the chance to speak to. RMB 30. 2-5pm. Dongzhimen
