Organization’s Annual Report Completed
In 2019, Beijing LGBT Center has overcome various difficulties and achieved much progress. Executive Director Xin Ying led the staff to complete a nearly 50-page annual work report.

Annual Institutional Strategy Meeting Planning
In order to ensure the Center to work more efficiently in the next year, and to make the Center’s service more professional and its advocacy work more influential, the Center has been carrying out the Annual Institutional Strategy Meeting each year since 2014 under the leadership of Executive Director Xin Ying. During the meeting, we reviewed our work of the previous year, discussed problems of the organization, and made plans for the next year. In late December, Executive Director Xin Ying, and Operations Manager Kim, worked out the goals and agenda of the 2019 Annual Institutional Strategy Meeting.

Airbnb Training
Development Manager John Shen and Corporate Diversity Project Manager Naying Ren conducted Airbnb’s first gender-diversity participatory workshop in China at Airbnb's Beijing office. This training is aimed at the core members of the company’s Diversity & Belonging group, and it is a participatory activity to help everyone raise awareness. The result was significant, and the workshop received excellent feedback.
December 21st -22nd, 2019Sexual Minority Marriage and Partner’s Rights Symposium
Naying Ren, Corporate Diversity Project Manager of the Development Department, participated in the Sexual Minority Marriage and Partner’s Rights Symposium and Pre-Meeting held at Mahidol University in Bangkok on behalf of Beijing LGBT Center. She learned about same-sex marriage work in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and actively participated in discussions on behalf of the Center, communicating with friends from various circles such as public welfare, law, academia, and the media.
December 11th, 2019Discussed Workplace Diversity and Inclusion with UN Organizations and Corporate Representatives
The Development Manager John Shen and the Corporate Diversity Project Manager Naying Ren participated in the training of Human Resources (HR) representatives organized by the UNAIDS and UN WOMEN. During the training, they discussed various issues with different representatives, including how to promote gender equality in the workplace, and how to fight discrimination against sexual minorities and AIDS patients.
December 14th, 2019Fun Queer Christmas Eve
The first “Queer Christmas Eve” ended successfully at Great Leap Brewing(GLB #12, north of Workers Stadium). More than 120 friends plus 8 cool entertaining performers shared drinks and enjoyed the “queerest” Christmas Eve in Beijing. We look forward to seeing you at Queer Christmas Eve next year.
December 2019“Monthly Donation” Officially Launched
After 5 months’ preparation, the Center’s "Monthly Donation" project was launched in December. Money raised under this project will be used for the Center’s operation, activities, media, and project staff salaries. Join the Center’s “Monthly Donation” now and work with the Center to create changes.

December 21st, 2019Multiple Media Interviewed the Transgender Girl
Who Successfully Modified her Academic Certificate
Under the arrangement of Beijing Gender Health Education Institute (BJGHEI), the transgender girl Xiaoxiao Fei who successfully modified the gender on her academic certificate received interviews from multiple media and publicly recounted her personal experience, aiming to increase the visibility of transgender issues in the public. Xiaoxiao Fei once received assistance from the Center and lawyer Paiyu Yi.
December 29th, 2019Group for Parents of Trans: New Year, New Beginning
Under the joint management of Tianjin and Shijiazhuang Branches of PFLAG China and the Center, the Group for Parents of Trans welcomed 60 parents and recruited new group management volunteers. Parents shared information in the group; they also encouraged and comforted each other. As administrators, we were moved by the dedication and acceptance of parents. Staff of the Transgender Department want to say to parents who care about us: Thank you for your understanding, and we will continue to work hard to make your children happier.
Media Department December 21st, 2019Community Voted for Same-sex Marriage to Fight Against Anti-gay Group
On December 21st, the attention of the Center’s official Weibo account has been drawn on the IFENG.com poll Advocating Same-Sex Marriage Legalization into the Civil Code: a group of homophobic people voted against it, bringing in over 50,000 votes in 5 minutes. The Center then initiated a campaign on Weibo and encouraged our community to fight against this homophobic behavior. Over 40,000 people reposted. Under the efforts of our community, our votes surpassed the opposite. According to the polling page on IFENG.com, 8,000,000 people participated in this poll.
December 20th, 2019Report: Spokesperson of the Legislative Affairs Commission Responded to Legalization of Same-sex Marriage into the Civil Code
On December 20th, the spokesperson of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress stated that the proposal of Same-Sex Marriage Legalization into the Civil Code has been reported by mainstream media such as The Beijing News, famous Weibo influencers and official Weibo accounts of related government departments. The Center’s official WeChat, Weibo, Facebook and Instagram (ID: bjlgbtcenter) accounts also followed up on this event. We encourage you to express your own opinions via comments, votes, etc.
Community Development Department
December 2019Volunteer Meeting
In the afternoon on December 28th, the Community Development Department held the second volunteer meeting at Microsoft Beijing office and over 30 new volunteers participated. The meeting included activities such as ice-breakers, introductions of each volunteer group, and old members sharing their stories and thoughts. After the meeting, multiple applications were received by each group from some participants.

The Community Development Department has held eight community activities with more than 150 people attending in December:
1. Two sessions of Learning English Through American TV Series. This season ended, and the next one will start in fall 2020. Stay tuned.2. One session of debate.3. One board game featuring Avalon.4. Two Les Booze parties for lesbians, bisexual and transgenders, with about 70 people attended.5. One mock court on transgender employment discrimination.
Mental Health Department December 31st, 2019Counselling Volume
The Department served 54 people for 122 times altogether this month, including low-cost counseling 15 times, group counseling 56 times and other activities 20 times.
November 30th, 2019Be Together Writing Workshop
The Department organized members of the Be Together group to discuss and practice writing, invited GQ magazine authors to give lectures, established a writing platform and assisted members with their articles.

From December 1st to December 31st, the Center had received a total donation of 2,910 yuan. The donation list is attached below, and donors’ names have been altered to protect their privacies. We will use the annotated ones for specific use as donors requested, and the rest for venue operation. Thank you all for your trust and support!
