By  Matthew Bossons

Torrential rains, boisterous thunder and bright bursts of lightening rolled into Guangzhou last night, leaving parts of the city flooded by knee-deep water.

The storm started last night and carried on through to the morning hours, resulting in some slippery issues for Guangzhou’s public transportation system, with images of flooded metro entrances and buses making the rounds on social media.

To ‘dive’ further into this morning’s flooding – and the delays it caused – we've rounded up some of our favorite photos circulating the web:

A boat was this morning's preferred method of transportation.

These people probably wish they had a boat…

Guangzhou offices will see a lot of wet sneakers today...

City buses traversing a flooded street.

More metro staircase mayhem.

Why they are still trying to keep their shoes dry at this point is beyond us.

Guangzhou insurance companies will undoubtedly be busy in the coming days.

We know what this guy is having for dinner.

Another flooded street, no big deal.

More flooding.

It’s safe to say lots of people probably decided to work from home today…

For some, Guangzhou’s flooded streets were a major inconvenience, for others it was a chance to have a little aquatic fun. Watch 'urban water sports' below:
