【Video】How will the pandemic crisis impact global economy?
CCG Webinar Series
Director of the World Bank’s Prospects Group analyses prospects for the global economy
The COVID-19 pandemic and related containment efforts have had huge impacts on the world economy. Virtually all regions are struggling with severe economic contraction. The World Bank's baseline forecast envisions a 5.2 percent contraction in global GDP in 2020 - the deepest global recession in decades. This would represent the deepest recession since World War II and the greatest that most economies have seen per capita output fall since 1870.
The World Bank recently released the June 2020 Global Economic Prospects. Its analytical chapters discuss the impacts of the crisis in the following key aspects:
·How deep will the COVID-19 recession be?
·How does informality aggravate the impact of COVID-19?
·Recent developments and outlook for low-income countries (LICs)
·Regional macroeconomic implications of COVID-19
·The impact of COVID-19 on global value chains
·Lasting scars of the COVID-19 pandemic
·The impacts of the oil price plunge
In addition, the report provides analytical projections of recent developments and prospects for different regions of the world, as well as presenting pandemic responses by the World Bank Group.
On June 12, the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) invites Ayhan Kose, director of the World Bank Group's Prospects Group, to discuss Global Economic Prospects online. The Global Economic Outlook is the World Bank Group's flagship report on global economic development and prospects, with a special focus on emerging markets and developing economies. The reports are issued twice a year, in January and June, and serve as an important reference for governments and businesses of all countries to understand key trends of the global economy.

This book offers the most comprehensive, up-to-date assessment of China’s domestic and international migration. Restructuring economic development requires large numbers of educated and skilled talents, but this effort comes at a time when the size of China’s domestic workforce is shrinking. In response, both national and regional governments in China have been keen to encourage overseas Chinese talents and professionals to return to the country. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has initiated a number of policies to attract international highly-skilled talents and enhance the country’s competitiveness, and some Chinese policies have started attracting foreign talents, who are coming to the country to work, and even to stay. Since Chinese policies, mechanisms, and administration efforts to attract and retain skilled domestic or overseas talents are helping to reshape China’s economy and are significantly affecting the cooperation on migration and talent mobility, these aspects, in addition to being of scholarly and research interest, hold considerable commercial potential.
