神仙湖集贤·师说 | 杜洋教授:生物医学领域很可能是未来最蓬勃发展的领域

第二期视频,我们邀请到了生命与健康科学学院的杜洋教授与大家分享他的求学经历以及对生物医学领域发展的展望。

Prof.Yang DU



杜洋教授现任香港中文大学(深圳)生命与健康科学学院助理教授、博士生导师、科比尔卡创新药物开发研究院责任研究员,领导研究组从事GPCR的研究和新药开发工作。


Dr. Du is now a tenure-track Assistant Professor and Doctoral advisor at School of Life and Health Sciences of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He also serves as a Principal Investigator in the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery (KIIDD), where he leads a research group to continue his basic/translational research on GPCRs for novel therapeutics development in the future.


杜洋博士2011年于中国科学技术大学取得博士学位,之后赴斯坦福大学医学院分子与细胞生理学系,师从2012年诺贝尔化学奖得主布莱恩·科比尔卡教授(Brian Kobilka)从事G蛋白偶联受体(GPCR)相关的博士后研究工作,并于2016年底转为斯坦福医学中心固定职位的研究科学家(Research Scientist)工作。


Dr. Yang DU obtained his Ph.D. degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2011. He then went to Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Stanford University, where he worked as a postdoctoral scholar on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) mentored by Nobel Laureate Prof. Brian Kobilka. In 2016, he was promoted to staff-level Research Scientist at Stanford Medical Center until early 2019. 


他的主要研究方向是以若干重要药物靶点GPCR为对象,从事其与下游信号分子复合物的结构、功能和药物发现工作。迄今已发表约50篇高质量SCI论文,包括在CellNatureJACSNature Comm.Chem. Sci.等国际顶级期刊报道的一系列科研成果,并受邀为ScienceNature Comm.等多种国际顶尖科学杂志审稿。杜教授于2021年起入选国家级、广东省、深圳市等各级高层次人才支持计划。


He mainly uses β2-adrenergic receptor as model receptor of GPCRs to study the structure, function and pharmacological properties of GPCR complexes with downstream signaling molecules. He has published about 50 high-quality SCI papers (13 first or corresponding author papers), including a series of scientific research results reported in world-class journals such as Cell, Nature, Nature Comm, Cell Research, and JACS. Invited to review manuscripts for many international mainstream scientific journals such as Science and Nature Comm. Professor Du has been selected as a special expert of the Ministry of Education since 2021, and has been selected for high-level talent projects at all levels, including national, Guangdong and Shenzhen.

专访


我本科在中南大学就读化学专业,因为当时听到的“21世纪是生命科学的世纪”这句话,我意识到研究人类的疾病和生理是很有意义,可以为人类做贡献。所以我在大三时通过生命科学教改试验班进入生物医学领域。后来我在中国科学技术大学修读博士,又到美国斯坦福大学医学院布莱恩科比尔卡实验室做博士后,然后留在斯坦福大学医学中心做研究科学家,最后又回到香港中文大学(深圳)做教授。


I got my bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Central South University. At that time, I heard that the 21st century is the century of life sciences. I have always believed that human disease research and physiological research are very meaningful as they can contribute to humanity. So, I attended an experimental class in my junior year, then entered the field of bio-medicine with a score of 1st place. After obtaining a PhD from the University of Science and Technology of China, I worked at Kobilka Lab, Stanford University as a postdoc and then continued my research at Stanford University Medical Center. After that, I returned to China to be a professor at CUHK-Shenzhen.


我到斯坦福布莱恩•科比尔卡教授实验室后的几年间一直围绕着β-2肾上腺素受体和它的下游信号分子复合物的结构与功能进行非常系统的研究,包括运用各种生物化学、生物物理学、细胞生物学还有结构生物学的手段来对受体的结构和它的分子机制进行彻底的研究。所有我的文章的产出也是围绕这个方面的一些工作。


In the years after my arrival at Kobilka Lab in 2012, my research work at Kobilka Lab all revolved around the study on β-2 and the structure and function of its downstream signaling molecule complex. I tried various methods like biochemistry biophysics, cell biology and structural biology to thoroughly study its receptor structure and molecular mechanism. All my articles were also about research in this field.  


2017年4月,我已经拿到密歇根大学安娜堡医学院药学系助理教授的offer。但是机缘巧合,港中大(深圳)的朱宝亭教授邀请布莱恩•科比尔卡教授来到香港中文大学(深圳)建立一个诺贝尔研究院,我与他同行来到这里。当时我对香港中文大学(深圳)就有非常好的印象,于是我很快决定到这里开展独立的科研工作。


Actually, I already got the offer to be an assistant professor at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in April 2017. It happened that Prof. Baoting ZHU invited Prof. Kobilka to establish a Nobel Laureate institute at CUHK-Shenzhen. Prof. Kobilka asked me to join with him. Since I had a very good impression of CUHK-Shenzhen, I immediately decided to come to CUHK-Shenzhen for independent research.


我一直期望我们的研究能够为真正的药物研发作出贡献,这也正是布莱恩科比尔卡来到香港中文大学(深圳)建立研究院的目的。所以我希望不论是在授课方面还是研究方面,都能围绕药物研发相关方向开展。我也会围绕我自己感兴趣的和现今主要的领域里面所急需解决的一些重要的药物靶点项目进行非常深入的研究,希望能够产出一些可能为药物发展提供帮助的研究基础。


I always hope that our research can really contribute to drug development. This is also the reason why Prof. Kobilka established the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery at CUHK-Shenzhen. Personally, I hope that my future courses and research can focus on drug development and related research directions. I myself will also focus on some major drug targets that I am interested in and urgently need to be solved nowadays. We will conduct very in-depth research to produce references for the development of drugs.


我一直认为生物医学领域很可能是21世纪最有希望,而且是最蓬勃发展的领域。人最终的、终极的需求和关注一定是自身健康和生存质量。所以我认为这个领域非常大,而且有许多激动人心之处以及进展。我一直希望学生们以后能进入这个领域,为人类的健康和生命质量做出贡献。


I have always believed that biomedicine will likely be the most promising and thriving field in the 21st century. The ultimate needs and concerns of humanity must be health and life quality. I think biomedicine is a great area with exciting research directions and thrilling progress. I always hope that students can enter this field to make a contribution to human health and quality of life.
