Role description
The Business Engagement Unit plans, facilitates and implements cooperation and exchanges with Chinese business actors, in particular with those involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. Its objectives are two-folded: a. Help companies better manage the social and humanitarian impact of their operations in complex environments (instability, insecurity and fragility). b. Explore partnerships with the corporate sector in a view to enhance ICRC's capacity, technology, network and resources.
Under the supervision of the Head of Business Engagement Unit, the Project Officer helps organize and conduct activities around the Responsible Business in Complex Environment Project. S/he ensures that project progress is made according to the Unit's Plan of Action and that methodology and tools of project management are used correctly, for instance by supporting documentation, planning processes and information management.
The incumbent regularly interacts with internal units such as the Policy, Communication and Logistics Departments, as well as external interlocutors like companies in the mining and construction sectors, business associations and CSR consultancies and government bodies.
Main duties and responsibilities
Is a focal point on the Responsible Business in Complex Environment Project for the Business Engagement Unit and ensures that documentation, such as the project portfolio, is kept up to date.
Performs and records project controls in accordance with the methodology and tools of project management and applicable ICRC procedures.
Coordinates and, when necessary, records information such as minutes of meetings and helps prepare other required documentation for the Business Engagement Unit.
Helps provide the necessary reports, monitor key performance indicators and fulfil other reporting requirements.
Maintains an overview of the project's progress and budget and a detailed view of the status of deliverables.
Supports and facilitates development of training modules based on an ICRC co-authored risk management handbook.
Supports activities contributing to the design of ICRC Beijing's business engagement strategies.
Desired profile and skills
Postgraduate degree or equivalent in Business, Economics, Law or International Development
1-3 years work experience in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Advocacy or Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
Fluent written and spoken English and Chinese
Computer proficiency
Very good administrative and project management skills
Very good communication and analytical skills
Creative problem-solving and self-motivation

Role description
The Protection Field Office contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC protection activities, small and medium-scale protection activities, in the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia. He/she will interacts internally with other units about activities relating to protection and externally with a network of contacts at the local and national level, such as authorities and civilians under the supervision of the line manager. His/her scope of activities will cover China, Mongolia, and the Korean Peninsula.
Main accountabilities and responsibilities
Implements protection activities under the supervision of the line manager; in particular:
a. Acts as ICRC Focal point for the Restoring Family Links (RFL) capacity building program in China and in Mongolia with the respective National Societies' counterparts.
b. Supports the Protection Delegate and ICRC Heads of Mission based in Pyongyang and in Seoul in developing RFL activities, for example through the preparation of seminars, workshops, etc.
c. Supports the Protection Delegate and the ICRC Heads of Mission based in Pyongyang and in Seoul to develop activities addressed the longstanding humanitarian consequences of the Korean War, in particular with regards to the soldiers killed in action still unaccounted for ("Missing" file). In this regard, actively contributes to transversal work with Weapon Contamination and Forensic colleagues, and any other departments' colleagues whenever relevant to the file.
Acts as Focal person for liaising with relevant Chinese and Mongolian authorities' counterparts, under the supervision of the Protection Delegate and/or the Management of the Regional Delegation.
Whenever necessary organise, participate and animate events (workshops, seminars, etc.) in favour of strengthening the capacities of the counterparts in RFL, and / or other topic relevant to the ICRC in the field of Protection (in particular RFL, Missing)
Contributes to the design and implementation of projects.
Contributes to analyse the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment relevant to the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia, shares relevant information with line manager and other colleagues, reports proactively any changes in the situation.
Collects, compiles and translates protection-related information pertaining to the contexts covered by the Regional Delegation for East Asia.
Analyses and contributes to written internal reports and programming (as part of institutional exercises).
Helps to make internal and external meetings meaningful (through preparation, participation, reporting and follow-up).
Develops and maintains contact with local/national authorities, National Society counterparts, the local population, suppliers, etc. in the area of Protection activities.
Prepares, participates in and reports on all aspects of field assignments.
May support and supervise staff in the implementation and monitoring of field projects.
Interprets and translates whenever necessary for the Protection Delegate (English-Chinese languages) and/or other international colleagues.
Fosters a conducive working environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamics) among team members.
Ensures the sustainability of their work and puts in place a system for archiving their work for the purposes of institutional memory.
Desired profile and skills
University degree or relevant professional experience.
Chinese native speaker
Excellent command of written and oral English
Computer literacy.
3-5 years' experience working in a related field, such as the social, political or economic sciences.
1–2 years' experience working for the ICRC or other humanitarian agency an asset.
Genuine interest for humanitarian action
Knowledge of French language an asset, but not compulsory
