Kanye West Breaks Down Crying Amid Bizarre President Campaign Rally

Hollywood Reporter

The rapper first announced his bid for the White House on July 4.

Though it was rumored he dropped out of the 2020 presidential race, Kanye West held his first campaign event in South Carolina on Sunday night — it was equal parts bizarre and uncomfortable.

The rambling speech — posted to social media by some in the crowd, including reporters —  was met with numerous groans as the rapper and clothing designer made such statements as “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”

In another moment, West shared a story about how he and wife Kim Kardashian West almost had an abortion, which is when he grew emotional about his past and his father. Hysterically crying on stage, the stunned crowd offered applause and shouted positive messages to West in an attempt to calm him. At one point, West had someone thrown out of the event for heckling, video showed. It not clear what the person said.

The surprise rally was held at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston and was "for registered guests only." According to ABC News, all attendees were asked to sign a COVID-19 liability release form, social distance and wear a mask.

West teased the event after taking to social media on Saturday expressing his hope to acquire signatures to get on the ballot in the state. "Hi guys please sign up to put me on the ballot in South Carolina at any of these locations," West wrote, sharing a list of locations. "You can also sign up at the website kanye2020.country."

That same day, West also appeared to tease his next album DONDA in a tweet that he has since deleted, but screenshots of the tracklist have circulated online.

Kanye West Breaks Down Crying Amid Bizarre President Campaign Rally

Hollywood Reporter

The rapper first announced his bid for the White House on July 4.

break down

通常表示“出故障,瘫痪”,此处指的是“失控痛哭,崩溃”,英文解释为“If someone breaks down, they lose control of themselves and start crying.”

Because she was so kind and concerned, I broke down and cried.

I broke down and called my old man.

bizarre /bɪˈzɑː/

bizarre表示“怪异的”,英文解释为“Something that is bizarre is very odd and strange.”

The game was also notable for the bizarre behaviour of the team's manager.

rally

A rally is a large public meeting that is held in order to show support for something such as a political party.”

bid

bid作名词,可表示“努力争取;努力;努力尝试;企图得到”,英文解释为“A bid for something or a bid to do something is an attempt to obtain it or do it. An effort to do sth or to obtain sth”,如:a bid for power 权力之争,举个🌰:

Her bid for re-election was unsuccessful.

📍2001年7月13日北京申奥成功,就是won the bid in 2001. 申奥奥运会申办the bid for the Olympic Games. 竞选总统(白宫),说的是the bid for the White House.

1)表示“买方的出价”,英文解释为“an offer by a person or a business company to pay a particular amount of money for sth”举个🌰:

Granada mounted a hostile takeover bid for Forte.

2)表示“投标”,英文解释为“an offer to do work or provide a service for a particular price, in competition with other companies, etc.”

The company submitted a bid for the contract to clean the hospital.

Though it was rumored he dropped out of the 2020 presidential race, Kanye West held his first campaign event in South Carolina on Sunday night — it was equal parts bizarre and uncomfortable.

equal parts

equal parts字面意思就是“相等的部分,等同的部分”,通常用法equal parts A and B, 指的就是A和B一半一半,两个“东西”所占相同,可以理解为“既... 如:equal parts colleague and boss 既是同事又是老板,equal parts luck and skill 一半是运气,一半是技能。

Equal parts, in short, means equally this, that and the other, at the same time and with no particular emphasis on each part.

当然,也可以不止A和B两个东西,还可以有equal parts A, B and C,比如:He was equal parts friends, mentor and confidant,既是A,又是B,还是C。

Equal parts “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Sex and the City” (minus the sex), it has resonated with the “me” generation aspiring to the lives of its protagonists, ...

The rambling speech — posted to social media by some in the crowd, including reporters —  was met with numerous groans as the rapper and clothing designer made such statements as “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”

rambling

rambling /ˈræmblɪŋ/表示“(发言或文章)冗长含糊的;不切题的”,英文解释为“If you describe a speech or piece of writing as rambling, you are criticizing it for being too long and very confused.”

🎬电影《嚎叫》(Howl)中的台词提到:it comes forth as a croon or a groan or a sigh, right?

In another moment, West shared a story about how he and wife Kim Kardashian West almost had an abortion, which is when he grew emotional about his past and his father. Hysterically crying on stage, the stunned crowd offered applause and shouted positive messages to West in an attempt to calm him. At one point, West had someone thrown out of the event for heckling, video showed. It not clear what the person said.

abortion

表示“流产”,英文解释为“If a woman has an abortion, she ends her pregnancy deliberately so that the baby is not born alive.”

He and his girlfriend had been going out together for a year when she had an abortion.

They heckled him and interrupted his address with angry questions.

The offending comment was in fact a heckle from an audience member.

1)It's very rude to heckle comedians.

2)Oh, that wasn't a heckle.

The surprise rally was held at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston and was "for registered guests only." According to ABC News, all attendees were asked to sign a COVID-19 liability release form, social distance and wear a mask.

liability release form

liability表示“(法律上对某事物的)责任,义务”,英文解释为“the state of being legally responsible for sth”举个🌰:

The company cannot accept liability for any damage caused by natural disasters.

“也可以在网站kanye2020.country上签名。”

tease

1)表示“嘲笑; 取笑”,英文解释为“To tease someone means to laugh at them or make jokes about them in order to embarrass, annoy, or upset them.”

He teased me mercilessly about going Hollywood.

2)表示“梳理”,英文解释为“If someone teases their hair, they separate the individual strands from each other, for example by combing it.”

Her hair was teased until it stood out and around her face.

To tease the event, Google has set up a website, and put up large billboards in New York ...

意外的是,在配图底部,发现了teaser这个词,此前在How You Like That...文中,我们就提到teaser,意思是“前导广告,悬念式广告(含蓄而引人好奇)”,英文解释为“an advertisement for a product that does not mention the name of the product or say much about it but is intended to make people interested and likely to pay attention to later advertisements”,比如各种MV影片的“预告”,“预热”片,就可以说是teaser。

ballot

1)表示“无记名投票”,英文解释为“A ballot is a secret vote in which people select a candidate in an election, or express their opinion about something.”

2)表示“选票”,英文解释为“A ballot is a piece of paper on which you indicate your choice or opinion in a secret vote.”
