无注释原文:
Only half of men consider this act as cheating in relationships
From: New York Post (Nov. 20, 2018)
When it comes to fidelity in relationships, a new surprising survey found that 49 percent of men did not think kissing someone else was cheating.
The study was done by researchers at BBC, who asked 2,000 adults about their sexual preferences. About 51 percent of men also didn’t consider cybersex with a third party as stepping outside of their relationships.
Family and relationship psychotherapist Dr. Fran Walfish says that these men are in “denial.”
“The guy feels a tinge of guilt for what he knows is wrong behavior, and he can’t tolerate or bear that feeling of guilt, so he rationalizes it by telling himself it’s not cheating,” Walfish, who’s based in Beverly Hills, Calif., told The Post.
Those numbers were a sharp contrast from female participants. Over 70 percent of women said that smooching and cybersex is cheating.
Meanwhile, 40 percent of all respondents said that browsing on a dating app is a breach of trust.
But Walfish says that all of these acts are signs of infidelity.
“Cheating is going outside of your relationship to meet any gratification, whether emotional, physical or sexual …. with someone you share sexual chemistry with,” Walfish said. “Flirting with the idea and taking your mental space outside of your partnership and spending your thinking energy on someone else … is a direct pathway to cheating.”
Not all hope is lost, however. Walfish says that one-time acts of adultery can be fixed if the guilty party takes accountability, expresses remorse, and takes time to rebuild trust in a relationship.
But if your partner is a serial cheater, Walfish says the relationship has a “very low recovery rate.”
“Chances are if they’ve done it more than once with more than one person, they’re probably gonna do it again,” she said.
