Invitation: Insights from 2021 Tou Ying Tracker

英中贸易协会 英中贸易协会 2022-04-08

In its ninth year, the Tou Ying Tracker unpacks the drivers behind Chinese investment in the UK. Join us for this webinar as Simon Bevan and Dr Ian Zhu of Grant Thornton led us through the key takeaways from the latest edition of this report. This overview will be followed by a panel discussion with additional speaker Mike Wang, Partner, KWM.

While companies continue to face challenges, including the fallout from COVID-19 and Brexit, the outlook for Chinese investment in the UK remains strong, with the largest Chinese companies contributing £63 billion to the UK economy in 2021.

The 2021 Tracker explores three main areas including the geopolitical and economic picture in which Chinese investment is taking place, and what this means for businesses. The areas and sectors in which Chinese companies are seeing the strongest economic growth in the UK. And finally, the business and cultural elements that underpin a successful investment in the UK.

Select findings from the report include:

  • 845 Chinese-owned companies operate in the UK (up from 838 in Tou Ying Tracker 2020)

  • Consumer businesses dominate this year’s tracker, accounting for 28% of the 845 companies.

  • Technology, Media, and Telecom and life sciences made up the majority of deals in 2021 (55%)

  • Private healthcare lead revenue growth (40%) and employee recruitment (14%)

  • Chinese companies have created or supported almost 61,000 jobs in the UK.
