Learning Chinese for the First Time 第一次学习中文

As we approach the start of the school year, the Chinese team are preparing to welcome new students who have never before studied the language. Ms April Peng, Primary Chinese Coordinator, offers some advice to those who will be learning Chinese from scratch.

新的学年即将开始，中文教学团队正在积极准备迎接那些从未学过中文的新生。小学中文课程主管彭曼女士为那些将从头学习中文的孩子提供一些建议。

Don’t panic!

不要恐慌！

Chinese is very different to Western languages. Sounds are new, the character system is new, it can all feel very strange! But don’t worry – our CAL teachers are incredibly experienced and will provide students with all the help and support they need. 

中文与西方语言截然不同。听起来很新，文字系统也很新，你可能会觉得很奇怪！但不要担心—我们的中文作为第二语言课程老师经验丰富，将为学生提供他们所需的所有帮助和支持。

Find your voice

找到你的声音

Encourage your child to take advantage of living in China by practising their Chinese in real life. Ask them to tell the taxi driver where to go, say good morning to your neighbours, and ask how much something costs in the shops. Practising simple vocab and phrases with Chinese people will help them find their confidence.

鼓励孩子们利用在中国生活的时间，让他们在生活中练习中文。让他们告诉出租车司机想要去哪里，向邻居说早上好，并在商店里有询问价格。与中国人一起练习简单的词汇和短语将有助于他们找到自信。

Make it fun

让它变得有趣

It’s important that your child enjoys their Chinese. There are lots of ways to make it fun. One way is by watching Chinese films. I can recommend KungFu Panda 功夫熊猫 (the Chinese language version), the Chinese animation Lotus Lantern 宝莲灯 and Mulan 花木兰. 

让孩子享受学习中文，这点很重要。有很多方法可以让它变得有趣。一种方法是观看中国电影。我推荐《功夫熊猫》（中文版），中国动画片《宝莲灯》和《花木兰》。
