Org. Setting and Reporting

The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) is recruiting interns for the period from 1 July 2019 to 31 October 2019 for its six (6) divisions located in New York. We are seeking highly motivated graduate or undergraduate students who wish to gain professional experience in international law within an international organization in order to supplement their studies. This internship will include practical educational experience which provides the opportunity to work in a multicultural intergovernmental organization. Under the supervision of legal officers, interns are assigned to projects and tasks that are most relevant to their educational background and interests. The interns will have an opportunity to apply and further develop their theoretical knowledge.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities of internship positions range widely, encompassing many aspects of OLA's work. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

• Assisting in conducting legal research on issues related to international law and other areas of specialization using multiple research resources; 

• Assisting in the review of legal documents, instruments or other material; 

• Assisting in drafting and preparing official and legal documents; 

• Attending and taking notes at conferences and meetings; 

• Assisting in servicing conferences and meetings; 

• Working on website and/or presentations.

Education

The degree programme which applicants are enrolled in or have recently graduated from must be in Law. Applicants must demonstrate their intention to study further or to work in a field relevant to the work of OLA. 

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants, at the time of application, must meet one of the following requirements: 

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); 

(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); 

(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.


Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experiences in their PHP.


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat in New York For the internship advertised, proficiency in oral and written English is required, and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another United Nations official working language, i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish, is an advantage.

Positioning and reporting

The Intern for Digital Communication will work and learn under the Digital Communication Officer supervision and will answer to the Head of the Communication Unit.


Internship role and activities

The Intern for Digital Communication will assist on the implementation of the different communication digital strategies as well as on the development of multimedia by:

• Developing and publishing content for the different OIE social media channels

• Developing graphic content for social media as well as for the OIE Website

Holland Innovation Network China is a government  network focused on Innovation, Technology and Science in Beijing,  Shanghai and Guangzhou. Duties and Activities

  • Create and maintain an active network with innovation-driven organisations in both China and the Netherlands

  • Collect and analyse data and information on Innovation, Technology & Science developments in China and report on new trends for  stakeholders in the Netherlands

  • Plan and organize incoming and outgoing missions and delegations

  • Write reports, articles and analysis on topics pertaining to trends and developments in the field of innovation in China.


Holland Innovation Network covers many (high tech-) sectors; of  special interest for this position are the Energy and Health  domains.


Job requirements

Level of education: university master’s degree, preferably in engineering or natural sciences.


Level of experience: This position is also open to newly graduated candidates.
