Green Solutions is a social enterprise located in southwest China that advocates for a sustainable lifestyle, plant-based diet and organic food. Our Projects

1. We currently sell eco-friendly products online but plan to open a brick-and-mortar shop in the future. We plan to launch a service selling organic vegetables using only reusable and sustainable packaging. 

2. On the last Wednesday of each month, we organize a community film screening on an ongoing environmental or social issue with a talk by a guest speaker who gives a damn about our planet and a hands-on eco-friendly activity. This event brings people together and helps raise awareness about sustainability through fun activities.

3. Yunnan Mountain Cleanup project is a community-based event, aiming to raise awareness among the thoughtless litterers. It happens on the first or second weekend of every month. The project aims to gather volunteers who are eager to hike around the mesmerizing city of Kunming, cleaning up local trails along the way. 

4. Green Solutions runs Zero Plastic Vegan Tours. Zero Plastic Vegan Tours, is a sustainable tour company that advocates for a better world, emphasizing on delicious plant-based cuisine and a greener plastic free lifestyle. We bring our guests to exuberant local markets in the rich cultural streets of China, that are hidden and unexplored to many, giving them the opportunity to savor traditional vegan snacks and flavorsome dishes. We aim to highlight and promote local sustainable businesses and traditions to support traditional crafts and help others to experience in-depth traditional Yunnan culture off the beaten path. We strive to be plastic free and eco-friendly to all!

1. 我们目前在线上销售环保替代产品，并计划在未来开设实体店。我们也正在筹划销售有机生态蔬菜，不使用任何塑料包装。

2. 每月最后一个周三, 我们会组织放映关于各种生态环境和社会问题的纪录片。同时，每期我们都会邀请一位来自不同行业的环保主义人士分享他们可持续生活方式的经验，以及开展各种环境友好的用品的制作的活动。

3. 云南山林清洁项目是一个社区活动，旨在让欠缺考虑随意乱扔垃圾的人们提高勿随手乱扔垃圾的意识。在每个月的第一或者第二个周末开展。该项目旨在聚集喜欢、享受、沉醉迷人昆明的徒步旅行志愿者们，清理当地沿途的步道，献出一份力。

4. Zero Plastic Vegan Tours(零塑素食游) 是Green Solutions旗下的一个可持续的旅游公司。倡导人们创造一个更美好的世界，推崇美味的植物料理和绿色环保的无塑料生活方式。我们把客人带到坐落在中国文化氛围浓厚的街道里的那些热闹的当地集市，这些市场对许多人来说是隐秘且未开发的，让他们有机会品尝传统的素食小吃和美味佳肴。我们同时带客人其它偏僻去处，支持和提倡当地可持续企业和传统手工艺品。我们努力做到全程无塑料和环境友好！

Volunteer positions:

Paid positions:

- Vegan Food Tour Guide (part time), you must be based in Kunming or Dali, have good command of English and speak conversational Mandarin. 

As the business grows, volunteer positions could lead to paid positions.

Our Team

我们的团队

Leo, Founder

Leo lives in Kunming and is vegan, a zero waste lifestyle practitioner, and off-the-beaten-track traveller. He is the founder of Green Solutions and Zero Plastic Vegan Tours. When you can't find him biking around in Kunming or roaming around in a market, he is probably hiding somewhere in a secluded village.

Rachel Dragos, English Editor

Rachel Dragos is a writer, educator, learner, and traveller. She is currently based Guangzhou where she teaches chemistry and physics at an international school. She was born outside Boston and lived in Ohio and San Francisco before moving abroad. Rachel joined Green Solutions as a volunteer after attending a wet market vegan tour with Leo in Kunming . When Rachel is not teaching, lesson planning, or writing, you can probably find her reading a book or planning her next adventure.

龙瑞秋,英文编辑

龙瑞秋是一位作家、教育家、学习者和旅行者。她目前在广州的一所国际学校里教化学和物理。她出生在波士顿郊区，移居国外之前，曾在俄亥俄州和旧金山居住。Rachel在参加了Leo在昆明的菜市场素食之旅后，深受Green Solutions和Zero Plastic Vegan Tours项目使命的鼓舞，希望尽她所能地为这个不断发展的组织提供支持和帮助。在Rachel不教书、备课或写作的时候，她很可能正在读一本书或者计划她下一个旅行。

Rachel Ma, Chinese Editor, Event Coordinator 

Rachel Ma is a former educator and a life long learner who was always passionate about volunteer service for the needy when she lived in Shanghai. Since she relocated to Kunming last year, she has been looking for an organization that would make a difference. That’s how she got to know Green Solutions and was inspired by its sustainable projects that help raise public awareness on environmental protection. She is grateful to be able to help out as a part of the team.

Rachel Ma, 中文编辑，活动组织

Rachel Ma曾是一名老师，在上海生活期间热衷于帮扶性质的公益活动，期间曾担任过义工队长。自去年回到昆明后她一直希望能找到一个倡导健康生活方式的公益组织。机缘巧合下她参加了几次Green Solutions的活动，并被Green Solutions的活动内容和所传递的环保意识所感染。她很开心能作为Green Solutions的一员为提升大众的环保意识尽绵薄之力。

Yuki Zhou, Translator

Yuki works as the operations assistant in an international toy company. Due to the impact of coronaviris, she is currently working from home. She was born in Kunming and studied, worked and traveled in different cities within and outside of China. Yuki realized the urgency and importance of climate actions and changed to plant-based diet few years ago. She found Leo’s project by accident and felt very delighted that there was such a nice project and organization in Kunming, her hometown. After contacting Leo, she was invited to be involved in this organization as a volunteer. She’d like to help with the translation and other exciting tasks. She wishes more and more people would be aware of the urgency of environmental issues and  take actions together to create an eco-friendly and sustainable relationship with the nature.

Niki, Photo Editor

Niki was born in Hungary. She moved to China in 2018 and now is a master’s student at Fudan University in Shanghai. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, currently she is in Hungary but hopes she can move back to China soon. Niki joined Green Solutions as a volunteer after a friend of her told her about Leo's project. She is basically a travel junkie and an adventure-seeker. Kunming is on her travel bucket list, and she got really excited that she can be a part of this project and promote a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.

Yilin, Photo Editor

Yilin is a nature person. Every time she goes somewhere new, she heads right to the local wet market, because they are full of energy, and you can find exotic and new things there but you can`t find anywhere else. She spent her childhood in Shenzhen witnessing rapid modernization and the disappearance of traditional markets and the characteristics of the city. She found Leo`s article about the wet market in Kunming by accident. She hopes the wet markets in China can still retain their fun and traditional quality during development. As a vegan, she also pays attention to environmental protection and supports Leo’s concept. Yilin hopes more people can join and take actions to protect our homeland.

意琳喜欢自然，每到一处旅游，首先会去的地方就是当地的老菜市场，因为那里仍旧保留着浓厚的人情味，更有些稀奇古怪的东西。从小生活在深圳，意琳看着这座城市快速的步入现代化，传统的市场也都改了新面貌，乡土气息也消失得无影无踪了。在偶然间看到Leo的公众号里面关于昆明菜市场的介绍后，意琳感觉很是有亲切感，她希望传统菜市场在城市发展的同时也能保留它特有的人文气息。作为一名素食主义者，意琳也很注重环保。看到Leo所提倡的环保理念，很是合拍。她希望更多人能够接受并采取行动，共同维护好我们的家园。

Abby, Translator, Chinese Editor

Abby was born in Kunming and is a university student. She likes to do volunteer work and cares about environment issues. After the recommendation of a foreign teacher, she became involved with Green Solutions, a social enterprise based in Yunnan. She hopes that an increasing number of people will pay more attention to environmental problems and contribute their talents to tackling them.

Carol, Translator

Due to COVID 19, Carol currently lives in Kunming. She finished high school in Changmai, Thailand and attended the University of Waterloo in Canada last year. She has a strong multicultural background. She is majoring in life science and is interested in marine biology. Carol got to know Green Solutions through one of their film screening events. With the interest of gaining experience by working with people and a desire to help this program in some way, she volunteered to do translation work between Chinese and English.

Morgan，English Editor

Born and raised in the US, Morgan has always felt a calling towards nature and sustainability and has always felt living simply, sustainably, and in harmony with nature was the best way to live.

After graduating college with a degree in international business in 2016, Morgan began his marketing career at a Dutch-based tech company, but ultimately felt his work career was misaligned with his tree-hugging passions. That led him to quit his job at the end of 2019, move to China, and begin working for a solar company, helping the world transition away from fossil fuels.

In his spare time, Morgan enjoys spending his time outdoors, hiking, running, and encouraging others to explore plant-based diets and zero-waste lifestyles.

Coquina Restrepo，Content Writer

Coquina is a content writer for several groups focusing on sustainability and education. She writes about the urban environment, the science behind learning and design solutions for sustainability and learning.

Originally from the US, she currently works as an ESL and science teacher in Shanghai. She enjoys teaching literacy through interactive games and books about science. Coquina can speak fluent English and conversational Spanish.

When she isn’t writing, Coquina enjoys cycling, urban photography, reading, and creating comic books.

Janet is a marketer in a consumer goods company based in Shanghai. Through her years of working on developing personal care products, she discovered a great interest in green, natural products and sustainable lifestyle. Mango, Translator

Mango is from Sichuan, China. She has been working in a Chinese tourism company for the past 7 years. Currently based in London as the sole representative of UK branch since the end of 2018. Main scope of works are reservation, supplier engagement and managing the team. Due to business purpose, she has travelled to more than 30 countries. It was her childhood dream of being able to travel around the world. Although she was not conscious of the idea of travelling at that young age, but her words to her father guided her to realizing her childhood dream.

Since the COVID-19 global pandemic, outdoor travel plan has been disrupted, which allows her to have more time to read and absorb new knowledge. She is grateful to have a chance of being a volunteer for Green Solutions. Being able to do  sustainability-related work brings her happiness.

Shari, Content Writer

South African born writer Shari, is a final year student studying in Nanjing. Coming from South Africa, Shari has a heartfelt connection to the welfare of animals and their environment, fueling her drive to contribute to a more sustainable eco-friendly way of life. Ying Han, Translator

Ying Han is a neuroscience major studying at Lake Forest College in the United States. Due to COVID-19, she is currently taking her classes online back in Kunming, China. Ying is also a dancer. Her favorite dance styles are jazz and contemporary. Ying grew up in Kunming and lived her past two years in Montezuma, New Mexico for high school. During her two years in New Mexico, she explored her interest in outdoor camping and sustainability development. With the increasing passion and interest about living a sustainable life in the future, she hopes to learn more about sustainability from volunteering for Green Solutions!
