It is easy to see that he reaches out to an elite group of Americans, and his book is read by many. Therefore, most American elites believe that China will definitely collapse.

These events suggest that China was another imaginary enemy of the United States in the decade following the collapse of the Soviet Union after it had contested the political legacy of the Soviet Union.
